Is Gay The New Black?

Seems like a lot of "reality" shows are casting Gay/Lesbian characters as diversity. Is it me or is this at the cost of other race based minorities?

Some of these shows will have 3+ white gay/lesbian characters and 1 or 2 non-white characters.

Am I just noticing this or do you find this common as well?


Are there THAT MANY gay/lesbian people out there? Seems like they are disproportionately represented.



I understand why MTV does it, but I’ve noticed this across the board.

Take Top Chef Season 4 for example.

Last season they had 1 asian male and 1 black woman (who got axed first) and AT LEAST 3 gay/lesbian characters, two of which were girlfriends, and ALL were white.

Is this a way for networks/shows to claim diversity while maintaining an all white/super majority white cast?
