so I got my new 80 gig iPod for christmas, and I had a question I was hoping somebody could answer...

My laptop is only 20 gigs (I have Windows by the way) and my iPod is 80 gigs.

After playing with iTunes for a while, I've come to realize that all the songs I want to sync with my iPod need to be in my iTunes library. Eventually I plan to get at least 20 gigs of music on the damn thing, but I dont want to and cant get 20 gigs of music into my iTunes library just sitting on my computer.

Is there any way I can sync the music I want to my iPod, delete it from my computer altogether and free up my room to put other albums on my computer? It seems every time I sync the music from my library to the iPod it will take whatever is not in the library off the iPod. Can I get around this, or is the amount of music Im able to put on my iPod limited to the amount of music I can fit on my laptop?

thanks for your help.

^^^^^ i did that show hidden folders thing and when i look in the folders all the songs are just renamed as like 4 letters. How do you find out what song is what without going through them all individually?

IPods dont let you take songs off them to load onto computers...(unless you load them onto it like data files in Windows explorer and not audio files you can play off the Ipod itself) you need a program like Copypod (PC) or IPodRip (Mac) to do that

LOL that's not going to work since iTunes "SYNCs" your music to your iPod. Whatever you delete from your computer is gone the next time you sync to your computer. Just buy an external drive they're cheap nowadays.

Can't, gotta threw them all. Just drag all the files (ctrl+a) in each folder back into Itunes and it'll show up in Itunes with the correct info.

so you're telling me I can delete the songs off my computer after I've loaded them into my iTunes library?
no...if u manually manage your music, they will load onto your ipod, THEN you can delete them from the computer. if it's not manually managed, you can't have shit on your ipod that's not backed up on the computer...
