"With the eyes of Texas, a curious hoops nation and the world upon him, the 22-year-old James, who has rarely failed to rise to any occasion, flopped like never before.

James shot just 4-of-16 from the field and finished with 14 points and six turnovers in 44 exhausting minutes. Led by Bruce Bowen, their top defensive agitator, the Spurs grounded Cleveland's soaring superstar."

And as for guys comin in later to benefit on who he's compared to......Well Kobe aint no where near Jordan and he came in after and is compared to him!! If u think otherwise thats on u, but I would strongly disagree!! Got Em!!
Way to ministerpret (as usual) ...

Fact of the matter is, if Jordan didn't accomplish what he did, play in the manner he did and have the competitive nature that he did, Kobe wouldn't have anything to aspire to. Same goes for Jordan patterning his game after Dr J and David Thompson. If it wasn't for those guys, Jordan probably wouldn't have turned out the way he did.

The difference is, the amount of info and need for info today brings up these silly arguments about how evolved a player is in his career when compared to another player. Read Gilbert Arenas' latest blog, he makes some interesting points about comparing current players to past players.

Look at Carlos Boozer. He's all but said that he wants to be Karl Malone. If there's no Karl Malone for Boozer to study and pattern his game after, then you don't see the Carlos Boozer that you see today.

Kobe Bryant's 5th season (2000-2001) stats:

Points : 28.5
Reb : 5.9
Assist : 5.0
Steals: 1.6
Blocks: 0.6

So, no, they don't match up to Lebron's right now, by 2 ppg, 2 reb, and 2 assists. But you have to remember one crucial point in the middle of all of this: Kobe Bryant, at that point in his career, was playing alongside Shaquille O'Neal, who average almost 29 ppg, 13 reb, and 4 assists.

I can see an arguement either way, but to say that Lebron James is that much superior to Kobe Bryant, with a.) he's putting up better numbers (barely) in a weaker conference, b.) he took his team to the finals last year (in a weaker conference, in which they were swept, or c.) his 5th year stats are better than Kobe's (when he's the only scorer on an average team...I can't agree with you. Sorry.

Come on man u gettin all philosophical!! Ofourse theres gonna be great players as long as the sport is around. Thats just the way of life! It has nuthin to do with this argument! U went somewhere that this thread isnt even about! U talkin about history and plyers who want to be like a certain individual!! Thats cool and all but I aint arguing that. There will always be players pattering there game after anotha and always idols but whats unique about LeBron is he is a rare breed! Some players wanna be the next magic or Jordan, LeBron has both of there game. The athleticism of Jordan and the court vision, unselfishness, body, and to be able to run the point like Magic at his size!! So he can form his own game without pattering it cause it hasnt been seen before with that combination feel me!! U know the game dog I aint sayin that, but we took this discussion to whole notha level. But at the sametime I am pointin out more why I think LeBron is the best player in todays game!! Got Em!!

Ok since u just dont get it Ill break it down for!!

Better scorer = LeBron
Better Passer = LeBron
Better rebounder = LeBron
Better Blocker = LeBron
Better Stealer = LeBron
Better Asst /TO ratio = LeBron
Better FG% = LeBron

What else do u wanna know?? Ok Kobe is a better defender! So u have 1 category wow!!! if u dont get why I think leBron is better then u are a lost cause!! Got Em!!

That's a matter of opinion, so you fail to GOT anyone without facts. One season's worth of better stats don't mean shit...Shawn Kemp in his 5th season had better numbers than Malone; is he better?

Stop sayin weaker conference bullshit!! LeBron balls against whoever he plays! Dont fault the man for what conference he is in!! He plays whatever the schedule consist of and handles his biz!!! And if u referring to me I never said he was that much superior, I just said I think he is the best player and Kobe is right behind him. Then I even said Ill go as far to say 1A & 1B....What more do want?? Got Em!!

Wow finally a unbiased Kobe comment. good lookin out thizz. Ill start payin more attention to what u have to say. I mean bein biased to your team is natural but some folks go over board so I can appreciate your honesty and I agree with what u said also!! Got Em!!
LOL

Come on CZAR, you can't be that dumb. Just because someone doesn't share your opinion, they're biased? LOL!

What's your take on Lebron? "GOT EM!"

What's your take on the Cowboys? "GOT EM!"

You're as biased as anyone on here; big deal. But if you're going to bitch and cry about someone being biased, check your panties for some blood, because your pms is kicking in, homie.

LOL...I can debate with you all night and day, but it gets old because you get so heated like you wanna bite the monitor. LOL

KOBE > LEBRON

And that's my OPINION, amigo, and I've stated why.

But...I can say that Lebron James is a tremendous talent...so I guess that makes me...unbiased. LOL

I know the game, very well in fact.

I believe the passing is pretty even, Lebron is a better rebounder (he's also bigger and stronger), blocking? Are you serious? Lebron's averaging a block a game, Kobe .5. Wow. LOL!

Kobe can, IMO, shut down any player at his same position in the league, and even just about any 1, 2, or 3. Can Lebron? I don't think so.

Kobe is a far better free throw shooter. Kobe has made plenty of game winners, and helped his team with plenty of comebacks, and been critical in close games, both in the regular season AND the playoffs.

You go on and on and on and on about being UNBIASED and it's YOUR OPINION...LOL...let others have thiers. LOL it's NOT. THAT. SERIOUS!

Weaker conference ''bullshit''...? Are you that dumb, seriously?

It IS the WEAKER conference. Do you need the records? The stats? What do you need? The fact that the past...what, 3-4 years, .500 could get you first in a couple divisions?

And he ''balls'' on whoever he plays? Really? Do you mean ''bails''...dude; he got swept by the WEST.

Ball that.

I keep trying to tell him stats are not everything, especially since he claims hes a person that watches the game frequently.

You would try to say Lebron is a blocker when he has .05 more blocks then Kobe a game. most the categories he is leading Kobe in he is leading barely which you and I both agree on is because Lebrons team is just decent and Kobes team is good.

you claim Lebron is such a better player than Kobe yet Kobe has a slight edge over him in the MVP race...wtf is that?

I guess you forget your own words sometimes ...

And no he wasnt close to LeBron in his 5th year!!
Even if that was in response to someone else, my whole point was that comparing player 'a' in his 5th year to player 'b' (who's 7-10 years older) who's 5th year was 5 years ago doesn't prove anything. It's one of the dumbest arguments in basketball no matter how you participate in it.
