Hip-Hop's Hard Road to Success -posted 29 Aug 2003 by Chamber

To be a hip-hop star, it seems to take a lot more than the ability to rhyme over a beat. According to rap music mogul Russell Simmons, "They go back and say, 'Oh, you used to be a drug dealer? That's a good story. You used to do what? You killed who?'" Premiering Sunday, September 7 at 9:00 p.m.(ET/PT), "Hip-Hop Babylon" also includes a reality segment featuring Joe Budden, whom VH1 has been following for several months as he goes though the grooming process, and his record is becoming one of the biggest in the country.

This two-hour special casts light on the other side of the rap game,
detailing the pitfalls of rhyming, lop-sided contracts, punch-ups with the
press and the crushing inevitability of fleeting fame.

It also features interviews from a high-powered cross section of rap luminaries including KRS-One, Master P, Wu Tang Clan, Run DMC, Naughty by Nature, Snoop Dogg, the Neptunes, Fat Joe, Nas, Queen Latifah and many more.
