Learn the process and art of combining text and graphics to communicate an effective message through the design of logos, graphics, brochures, newsletters, posters, signs and other types of visual communication.

Receive extensive training in design, typography, composition, digital paint, and illustration techniques. Training includes knowledge of pre-press production, photo manipulation and a comprehensive understanding of the overall business of a graphic design studio.

This program will prepare you for an entry-level position as a production artist, advertising designer, illustrator, layout artist, digital publisher or visual artist.

Students completing the Graphic Design Program will have acquired the technical knowledge and the creative skills necessary for an entry-level position in the commercial art field and in the rapidly expanding field of electronic publishing. These occupations could include: production artist, advertising designer, illustrator, layout artist, line artist and positions where computers have replaced manual workstations in the graphic design industry.

In addition to extensive training in design and composition, electronic paint and illustration techniques, digital and traditional typography, training includes proper operation of a variety of equipment, knowledge of pre-press production, photo manipulation, and a more comprehensive understanding of the overall operation of an electronic design studio.

The general education component will provide understanding of social and behavioral sciences, environmental science, humanities, language, art history and math. The emphasis is placed on people skills, critical thinking and problem solving to prepare qualified, employable and productive employees for today’s industries.

Has anyone heard anything about these programs?

I have the GI Bill which pays $1000/month. So thats not what im paying. Also ive done the community college route, I rather go somewhere that specializes in the field im studying.

Its not about being cheap people, I have the money to spend on good training and my career.

Art schools give you both technical and artistic direction vs a Reg College or University they give you the technical and your lucky to find a teacher that will help you become creative. they bout have advantages and disadvantages. I went to a business college that offered graphic design as a full program but they still to this day don't offer photography and I had to learn from diff designers here in Detroit a creative style. If you know how to draw that will help alot also. The degree you get is good for corp jobs because they have to pay you more for your education and skill level. Just make sure you get your monies worth.

to me its more of a side job/hobby thing, not so much trying to make a career outta it, i already have my mind set on one thing and im going to school for it already. I think the graphic design game is hella saturated unless youre super creative.

exactly why I picked an art college versus a jc. Ive done the jc route in the past and its just not as good as the more expensive specialized technical schools, although they may be more expensive I figure if you pick the right place you get what you pay for.

Shit to be real, in the end if you don't have the drive or talent neither will matter because your work might still suck. I know cats that went the route I did that suck ass and cats that went the art school route that suck ass.

if I didnt think I had the drive or talent I wouldn't pursue it homie, im 30+ WITH a full time job. I'm not going to waste my time by adding to that becoming a full time student. Doing both is a lot to manage, plus I am married...Im serious about my decisions.

Either way, whatever route you go, if you dont have the D&D you will still suck ass.
