Man Attacks Women's Health Center
A man drove his car into the lobby of a women's health center in Davenport, Iowa on Monday, attempting to destroy what he thought was an abortion clinic. David McMenemy, a Detroit native, crashed his car into the Edgerton Women's Health Center, driving into the building's interior. He poured gasoline inside the car, hoping to create a blaze that would create significant damage to the building and kill himself, too, the Detroit Free Press reports. He has been charged with second-degree arson and is being held without bond; according to the Macomb Daily, McMenemy has pled not guilty.

The clinic, which has a large obstetrical program and runs the local Women Infant Child (WIC) program, does not offer abortion services or referrals for women seeking abortions. In his affidavit, McMenemy said he thought the center was an abortion clinic, the Detroit Free Press reports. Police are concerned that McMenemy may be connected with others who frequently commit acts of violence against women's clinics, though no links have been established.

The health center sustained severe damage and will require a week or more before reopening for repairs. The crash occurred in the early morning when the building was vacant; no one was hurt.

No national newspaper, magazine or network newscast reported this attempted suicide bombing, though an AP wire story was available. Cable news (save for MSNBC's Keith Olbermann) was silent about this latest act of terrorism in America.

Had the criminal, David McMenemy, been Arab or Muslim, this would have been headline news for weeks. But since his target was the Edgerton Women's Health Center, rather than, say, a bank or a police station, media have not called this terrorism - even after three decades of extreme violence by anti-abortion fanatics, mostly fundamentalist Christians who believe they're fighting a holy war.

That's textbook terrorism, defined by the USA Patriot Act as dangerous criminal acts that "appear to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population" or "to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion."

Insanity, and the author is correct. If this man had been a muslim or someone who even appeared to be a muslim or of middle eastern descent it would have been in the news and probably still in the news. People call me an extremist, but I don't want people to get harmed by the hands of others, and I don't endorse that. I believe God has a plan for us and works through us, but the MURDERING of more innocent people is just as wrong as murdering the children in the womb (btw, I don't want to debate abortion.) Now, do I believe in "DIVINE INTERVENTION" or "DIVINE PUNISHMENT"? Sure, if a boulder crashed on every abortion clinic in the world, I would be happy and praise the Lord, but when people strap bombs to their baby teeth, run inside and blow things up thats a bit loony.

you make a good point. these anti abortion wackos make me fuckin sick. if you agree with it or not is none of my business and i dont give a shit, but when you think youre some kind of soldier of god going out bombing people it makes me fuckin sick. the fundamentalist right is dangerous to this country, not being sarcastic at all. they really are especially how i hear a lot of them talking about armageddon and the end days. how soon is it before they start offing people like me simply because im not christian or a follower of any particular religion.
