Why would you release it for people to download and listen too ? I see/hear alot of that now and dont get it. Its almost like its a process that has been forgot about. What are your thoughts on this ?
man, I'm really glad you brought this up. I put out a cd for free, just a little local thang thang here in OKC and some were mastered and some weren't. I put it out for free outta pocket and put them out on blank cd's.
I don't really have money for good equipment or mastering and all that but there is a huge difference when it's done correctly and I realize that. My music (if you wanna call it that) is a tool that I use to hopefully reach people with a positive message about establishing a relationship with God/Jesus for the most part. I realize a lot of people won't like it but if one person turns their life around for the better then I'm with that.
BUT, I think the lack of mastering and poor quality of music has generally killed hip hop, especially bay area hip hop. The "mixtape" era is basically another way of saying "low quality" to me. There might be good lyrics but they sound like dooky on a lot of projects, then dudes wonder why they're not selling.
Mastering and mixing should not be overlooked and I don't mean by a homeboy you know with a mac in his house and thinks he can do it. I mean a legit place that does it for real.
