I always see these "The Bay Will Never Blow Up" posts and never get a chance to respond... so here's what I think (like you care)

Hip Hop is hip hop... If it's tight, it's tight no matter where you are from. Shit, if San Quinn was a nobody and he went to a label and played them some shit and freestyled for them, the people at the record label aint gonna ask him where he's from and then kick him out of the building when he says "San Francisco" or "The Bay Area". If you got marketable talent and at least one HIT SONG, that prevails over EVERYTHING. The funny thing is - EVERYBODY ... one more time ... EVERYBODY is a hit away from gettin on. That's a fact. What's the "My Neck My Back" bitch name? Well whatever her name is.. Who the fuck is she? Somebody wit a song that a lot of mufuckas liked. She was probably on an indie label, got the song to a radio station and it blew the fuck up. People in the Bay Area need to quit blaming where they are from on why they're not going anywhere wit their music. Because nowadays, it's a WIDE OPEN market. There's no particular type of style that's in right now. You just need a hit record. Which when you think about it, that's the one thing that aint never changed. Cats just thinkin too small. Hate to break it to yall *grabs a tissue for everyone* but the independant shit out here is D E A D, D E C E A S E D, C O L D, because you got too many mufuckas rappin wit no skills, you got lazy distributors, you got stores that are tired of lazy distributors and rappin cats wit no skills that bring shit to the stores that don't sell which in turn makes the buyers reluctant to taking as many units as they once did which in turn effects YOUR project .... cats need to change their way of thinking if they wanna make some REAL money off of this shit. That's just my opinion tho

some of its real talk. but pimp look at it like this. name a hit song with out a catch phrase????? and the beats the east using the west dont want. none of the 2 snares kicks high hats and a clap.
or even less then that in a beat.

EXAMPLE: "grindin" took my boy about 6 minutes to make the beat on frutiy loops.

2nd EXAMPLE: " KHIA, MY NECK MY BACK, song" shit takes no talent had no lyrics no flow nast voice with even a nastier body and face. but why did it sell? because females can shake they ass to it and it reps females having sexual control over a man.

yet they huge songs, but what does that really mean?

Also most the cats on the east got no talent. you tellin me jay z better then yukmouth? clipse better then E-40 ? nelly better then san quinn? come on now folks you trippin.

on the dist thing. it aint the distributor or the stores. its the radio and the market thats out there. in the 90's more around 93-96 songs werent bassed and albums werent bought just because of a catchy hook. they were copped because of the quality of the product lyrics heart delivery and the beats. not just a song a bout fuckin a female or a song a female can shake they ass to. in the 90's white boys wanted to be thugs, now its all about being a pop star and wearing platinum and shit. so who gon sell albums?

Now you take the artist's in the bay and throught cali, they spit street shit in general. WHY YOU ASK, because thats where there from, thats what the know, so thats what they rap about. now cats on the east down south and every where else thats on MTV spit what sells. artist in CALIFORNIA spit whats real, not what sells or gets females.

but this long enough so im finna end it like this.

EVERYBODY 1 HIT AWAY FROM MAKING IT BIG. BUT NOT EVERYBODY CHANGE WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY KNOW TO DO IT.

i feel u dion, SIMPLE sells thats the bottom line. Nobody wanna hear a mobbed out ass beat on the radio... (proppa: if your boy made that beat in 6 minutes he must be kickin his own self in the ass that he coulda been a millionaire on a six minute to make beat) the game is flooded in my opinion the only way for the industry in itself to have long term success the people who r weak should realize there weak and give it up for the better cause of the music. its different if u have talent and no resources...u can hustle yourself into some but you either have talent or u dont. i hate convo's like this tho cuz then cats say your hating or whatever. even ludacris came outta nowhere and just blew the fuck up cuz he has a nack for making hits, regardless if u like em or not u have to give him that. another thing is tho is that even tho the economy isnt at its best right now people in general nowadays want everything for nothing, u try to sell a cat a cd for even 5 and they hesitate EVEN IF THEY LIKE IT. good shit tho dion.. pz

Radio is the key to large sales!!!plain and simple...nobody's gonna sell 250,000 out of there trunk, but the artist should dam'n well try too.Artists are busy smokin weed, and being lazy as fuck, and not concentrating on their own hustle.Your product should be in every radio station in your region.Go to the clubs, give your shit to the d.j.'s,make sure they play it,and be intimidating:dead: NO JOKE.There's alot of bitches perpin like there from the hood, but there scared to go out in the real hood and sell there shit, gotta do it.Also,go to the private schools, and make'em feel so uncomfortable, that they feel they better copp the product or there might be a fiasco, and when they buy it,act like your there best friend.Rich kids will eat that up.(word-o-mouth)

Have your own "personal" street team!Half the posters people send out....I get the feeling that there all going on the kids bedroom wall.It might take a weekend for you,and maybe 5 homies with staple guns to git your shit up all over the city.

Also, please don't expect a profit from your first release(if your w/o dist.),cuz if you ain't giving away 300 c.d.'s(depending on location)you ain't gettin ahead for your next release.

And if your product sucks,it's always gonna suck!
production,mastering,production,production,production

Don't fuck with weak homies,if there shit sucks, they are'nt doing you a favor with a free verse.IT SUCKS PERIOD

im glad someone brought this up.....

heres what else i think is hindering the Bay from blowing up

1. PRODUCTION: everyone and they mom are making beats..beats are being thrown all ove rhte place... and hella of them booty... yup thats right..hella bay producers suck balls.... reusing the same Drum claps..the same funk samples..every fucking song sounds like a variation of some 94 brother lynch hung or some 93 c-bo...niggas need to step up they game as producers and start flooding the market with they OWN INDIVIDUAL SOUND, and stop tryna make a BAY SOUND......

2. LYRICISTS: alot of niggas out here suck cuz they biting..plain and simple..they all wanna sound like a mac mall or a keek, and if they aint sound like either then they clown on niggas talking bout that aint bay shit...im like nigga, Shut the fuck up... then niggas dont wanna step up they game and get lyrical..they think using a similie or metaphor makes them sound new york..nigga.. GO AHEAD And SOUND NEW YORK, who the fuck cares...the one thing that separates the Bay lyricist from any other region,, WE GOT STYLES.... aint nobody can STYLE LIKE WE CAN...we got stories for days....and WE sTYLE EM....

3. FUCK KMEL.....we need to do somethign about it, where local niggas could get some fucking airplay..........its ridiculous..nobody wanna listen to ashanti and her midget freind jarule 24/7..... they e en got them niggas playing during the slow jams....

And yea your right Dion. But when we say the bay, we dont mean its just the people from the bay. When I say "the Bay Area needs to blow up" I think of it as WE need to blow up, because its where I am from and I think we have a lot of artists who are hungry and are workin hard and deserve to blow up.

The way I see it, the "Bay Area" as a whole will never where it once was. I'd be stupid to think any different. If cats would stop looking at things as territorial like this is some street shit then maybe people would get somewhere. East Coast this, West Coast that, Bay Area this, Down South that - forget that bullshit. You think these rock bands that's sendin in demos EVERYDAY to these A&Rs are consuming themselves with where they're from? No. But they're getting signed none the less - because of their music. That's the point I'm trying to get across.

... I know, I know, rock is different than hip hop so you don't have to bring that point up...

I'm not saying I have all the answers, cause lord knows I don't. I think changing the way of thinking around these parts is a good start. If you're approached by an A&R or a representative of a major label, let your music speak for you, not where you rest your head at every night. It's coo to represent where you're from but don't let it make you or break you.

B-12 - as far as my distributor comment, I was talking in general. I personally haven't had to much hands on experience with dealing with distributors but all the stories I've been hearing lately haven't been good. It's always "my shit is supposed to be in these stores here, but they aint there." "My shit came out 2 months ago and people still can't find it in LA - and I'm from San Francisco" etc... Maybe "lazy" was the wrong term, but it sounds about right to me... No need to take it personal 12er. But if the shoe fits, get the matching shirt....

i think people need to start networking more. when the west coast was big and the south was nothing. Master-p went from the south to the west. maybe some artists should do the same thing.

and besides that companies are looking for talent out of the bay area. its just that their aint any. do you guys really think a record company signs people from kentucky and saint louis because there in a prime location?

I completely disagree with you. I think artists need to network LESS and be on their own more. A lot of my favorite albums that have been coming out lately (Eminem, Mac Mall, last Nas, last Kurupt, Done Deal Fam, Techn9ne) are so good because they only have a few features...Its really the rtist showing their shine.

I would really rather see Bay Artists stay in the Bay rather than be on MTV with cars, women, jewelry, burberry, pop clothes, and fake shit to talk about anyway. Cuz that's 90% of rap now anyway........Bay rap ain't pop and I doubt it will be for years or ever. And that's all that's popular anyway. So, again, I don't think the market is in our favor because bay style is too grimey for the radio. Fuck cleanin it up. Just do what you do and don't change for anyone. If you're tryin to make money then that's a different story. Rap about how many cars you got when you dont got shit and you'll be on tv in no time.
