Today I did something I haven't done in years. I actually tuned into the idiot box and listened and watched it for more than an hour. All I've been hearing on Fox is racism shit and how this is all about race. Now of course I expect that from fox, hell I expect it from more liberal stations, but IMHO, major media outlets are programing people to dislike this man and possibly shove one in between his head. Yeah it's all politics, and all the shit talking and smearing is supposed to be political, but those corn gflake eating faggots in those vids ThaG posted don't understand that.
There are ignorant people all over the world, they are the majority actually. In some cases they aren't dangerous. But if you combine ignorance + bigotry, that's an explosive combination. That's the combination that gives birth to suicide bombers in the Middle East and to their equivalent in the US, the right wing fundies.
I have to admit something - until a few years ago, I was quite a happy man, and the main reason for that was that I had never seen the ignorance with my own eyes. There was very little of the existential pessimism that I am full of right now. The thing is that the America people overseas see is the America of Hollywood movies, the sitcoms, NBA, Wall Street, the skyscrapers, the elite universities, etc. None of the fundamentalist stuff gets exported, because there is no market for it. The result is that people outside of the USA have no idea that the people in those videos exist. They have never seen the mega churches, Christian TV, the signs on the lawns before elections, none of that. I had no idea either, until I came here. Not that I have seen these people personally, I have been quite happily confined to regions of the country that don't have many of them, but through the internet I became aware of the situation. And then you understand - damn, it's not only the psychos in the Muslim world, they have the same people here, and they have a lot of them, we're totally and irreversibly fucked up. It is impossible to clean the mess that's been done. People who have that kind of attitude both can not be changed and they multiply much faster than everybody else. And in time of crisis, they will not have to look hard to find victims to put the blame on. So the future is grim, very grim.
