That is a good look for Modesto. I only hope that some local artist (rapper, producer, screen writer...) gets something out of this.
i doubt anybody will be apart of it from up here (nor cal).Ice Cube wrote the movie so the screenwriter hope is out..........the only cats locally that will probally contribute is my boy Teak and his bro cus they already produced music for his last two albums...........

JANKY PROMOTERS CASTING NEWS

Ice Cube and Mike to team up again in new comedy
Source: The Hollywood Reporters

June 11, 2008

Marcus Raboy is set to direct "Janky Promoters," the latest comedy from writer-actor-producer Ice Cube. Mike Epps and Terry Crews also have joined the cast. All four are alumni of the 2002 comedy "Friday After Next," which Raboy directed and Cube wrote and starred in with Epps and Crews.

Cube Vision partner Matt Alvarez also will produce.

"Janky" follows the shenanigans of a pair of shady concert promoters (Cube and Epps), self-described "Modesto's finest," who get in over their heads when they get a shot at booking a big-name hip-hop act (an actual rapper whose deal was closing Tuesday). Complications come in the form of a pot-growing neighborhood nemesis named Mondo and Cube's character's son (Nickelodeon star Little JJ), who is under contract with the old man.

Shooting begins Monday in Sherman Oaks, though the movie is set in Modesto, Calif., and takes place in a single day.

"It's Cube going back to his roots as a writer and an actor," Raboy said. "He's writing about a world that he knows."

Added Raboy: "It's cut from the same stone as 'Friday.' It's definitely new characters and a new world here, but it's of the same vibe. It's gonna be grounded but colorful. We're not tryiing to do broad comedy; we're trying to do comedy with an edge."

Dimension Films pre-emptively purchased "Janky," Cube's first screenplay since "Friday After Next," in March. Cube has a first-look deal at the Weinstein wing, and his agreement on "Janky" includes profit participation once the production budget is recouped. Dimension is releasing the Cube starrer "The Long Shots" on July 25.

A commercials and video director, Raboy recently shot a Wayans Bros.-produced scripted comedy pilot for VH1 called "The Life and Times of Marcus 'Felony' Brown" that did not get picked up. He also is attached to direct the comedy feature "Tow Truck" for Broken Lizard Industries and Our Stories Films once "Janky" is ready for the spotlight.

Raboy is repped by WMA and Modus Entertainment.

They started to flim alot in canada becuz of the union worker fees who work on the set in america compared to Canada. Plus our dollar WAS shiting all over canadas so hollywood was paying less all the way around.
