First and foremost, thanks for reading. Now on to the subject:

I have a term paper I need to write for my History of Western Civilization to 1600 class, and our teacher gave us the option to write about pretty much anything we want. Now I was told he'd just like a paper on any decently important historical event throughout history, even up to the terrorist attacks on September 11th 2001. So we have the option to go outside of the boundaries set by our textbook, which seems cool.

Now since I have the option to choose my own topic, I've decided it would serve both my instructor and I best if I chose something I know very little about. That way Im learning something new and keeping it fresh, maybe even teaching him something in the process.

The problem is, I can't really decide on any topic! The two I've thought about are:

The Detroit race riots of 1967

and

The rule of the British empire over India, with particular emphasis on the 'West Indies', and/or the whole hunger strike for peace with Ghandi.

I was also considering the murder of 2pac, but it seems too recent and more of a journalistic story than a history paper.

Now I've just searched online a lil bit and read on some of the shit, but it seems like a lot of research through a lot of boring ass websites (I have to name my sources) before I get to anything that's written well enough to cite.

So here's my question to ya'll: any suggestions? have any of ya'll had to write a paper like this, and if so; what did you write yours on? Is there anyone here who just happens to be well informed about either of the two topics I'm already considering?

The paper gotta be 5-6 pages in length.

How about on Tupac Shakur's father? He was the founding member of the National Committee to Free Political Prisoners. He has been a leader in the struggle against the illegal U.S. and local American law enforcement programs designed to destroy the Black movement in America and has worked to expose and to stop the secret American war against its Black colony.

DR. MUTULU SHAKUR http://www.prisonactivist.org/pps+pows/mutulu-shakur/mutulu-st.html
Since the age 16, Dr. Shakur has been a part of the New Afrikan Independence Movement. As a part of this movement Dr. Shakur has been a target of the illegal Counterintelligence Program carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (COINTELPRO). This was a secret police strategy used in the U.S. starting in the 1960's to destroy and neutralize progressive and revolutionary organizations. It is believed that Dr. Shakur's resistance to this program led to his arrest and trial.

He has solid evidence that the killing of his son Tupac was a continuation of COINTELPRO. The F.B.I., the Federal Bureau of Prisons and law enforcement made every effort to keep him separated from his son Tupac.

Tupac's mom was a member of the Black Panthers, too.

If I were to write a paper I would write one about the history of sugar. It might sound kind of odd but basically sugar was what oil is in todays current events.

Yeah, the Europeans had to go set up shop in the tropics and dominate all the brown people to get that sweeeet stuff, and other resources. And it put all the beekeepers in europe outta business! Fuck honey, we need that CAAAANE sugar! Neeeeed it. Tobacco too.

Mistake #1 was hoping the siccness would help you with something like this

Mistake #2 putting it in the open forum

Your topics are either too broad or honestly not that important.

How long does your paper have to be?

Boer wars, south Africa

And I would recomment you visit a library instead of searching on your computer.
Two excellent ideas. The anti-apartheid movement would be a great topic too -- ANC, Umkhunto we Sizwe, Steve Biko, Soweto Uprising, etc. Books are your friend, lolz

pretty broad options. i dont see why you would have a problem with this. you can write just about anytrhing

one suggestion
national geographic did a story a few months back on the real history behind Jamestown. how the introduction of bes to the new land drastically changed the landscape. georgia wouldnt have been the peach state had it not been for the honey bee. as well as other things. shit was incredible. get your hands on that issue

You should write about how impoverished, welfare-collecting bands of toothless KKK members standing in front of ramshackle trailers and cars with no tires on hot days in the Deep South oppress people seven states away.

Shit I wrote a report bout JFK murder back in the day, pretty interesting, but its easy to get into bullshit conspiracy theories. I also did 1 bout the crusades back in the day. Writing bout wars can b coo cuz reading history can get boring but when its hella gruesome deaths and whatnot it can keep it a little more interesting.
