besides having good music......

you could make the cd pretty and have somebody design it with a logo on it.

if you are sending the beat cd to a lable or artist....make sure you beats are consistant with the "sound" of that lable or artist....

if you are just trying to get people to buy your beats i dont see anything wrong with sending just the beat....maybe a low quality snippet with a security tag in it if youre cautious about beat-jackin.

try putting a little bit of reverb on the snare every once in a while, not on every snare but maybe like on one snare every 8bars.
you could also drop elements of your beat at certain times, then bring them back in.....you know, like how Jay-Dilla does
or try adding some sound fx, or a voice....like a "uh" or whatever
throw some strings in paned all the way to the right in the second verse (if sending the whole beat)

omg, please tell me youre referring to a specific song and not just in general. you dont just go around adding strings to the second verse of a song (panned hard right might i add) on g.p.

or do you? did i miss something?

yeah, that kinda came out wrong.....basically the point i was trying to make was to introduce a new element into the mix such as strings or a shaker or something just to keep your song parts less repetitive or whatever.

The most important thing is that your beats sound complete. Put them in song mode and mix them as best you can. That's all that matters.

As far as adding strings and vocal samples or whatever, only if the beat calls for it. And use as little compression as possible.
