Your best friend (whom you trust your life with) calls you in a panic one afternoon. He doesn't talk about the exact nature of the call, but he tells you that he desperately needs your help and you must meet with him immediately. Without question, being the good friend you are, you meet him at the given destination as quickly as possible. You arrive at the place and see his car parked on the side of an abandoned building, you pull around the structure, park to the side and exit your vehicle. As you get out you see your friend just up ahead, you pace towards him and as you get closer, you notice that he is covered head to toe in blood; your friend is completely terrified. Just a few feet away from him lies a dead body, and your heart begins to pound. You ask him what happened...
He said the guy (who lies on the ground breathless) was an acquaintance of his that he met at a party one night [the guy supposedly sold drugs]. Your friend said he called the guy just to buy some bud to smoke and was told to meet at this spot. When the guy arrived with the bud (alone) things went sour as he tried to rob your friend. After an altercation that lasted approximately 2 minutes, your friend disarmed the guy and stabbed him repeatedly in the stomach and chest as he feared for his life. The guy died almost instantaneous [this brings you to the current time frame].
Now assume that the guy who was selling the bud told no one of the meeting, and there were no witnesses (to either of your recollection) that saw anything leading up to this point. The meeting place is somewhat remote, no one in plain sight, but there are a few buildings and houses. Your friend tells you that he desperately needs your help, what do you do...
Possible decisions:
1. Tell your friend he is on his own, this is his mess and he must clean it up. You leave and hope to hear from him later.
2. Same scenario as above only you strongly encourage him to turn himself in.
3. You understand that it was self defense, but considering the circumstances surrounding the meeting, you know it will never hold up in court. You help him clean up the mess, dispose of all the evidence, and cover up any traces that could lead authorities back to either one of you. There will be an investigation once the body is found, but with no evidence, in all likelihood, it will not come back to you.
4. Same scenario as above only you choose to hide the body. So instead of having the authorities find the body and begin a murder investigation, you hide the entire thing so that there is no investigation at all, and a missing persons case is opened (up until if and when the body is found).
5. Same scenario as above except you take the guys money and grab the rest of what he had in his vehicle. This will ruin the possibility of self defense (if you were caught) and establish motive for homicide.
6. Thinking that there is no way out of this situation, you phone the authorities yourself to save your own neck.
7. Other [explain].
The question you have to ask yourself is, how much do you really value your friend and your own life. If you have only known him for a few months, maybe so much as a year, you might choose the first option. Maybe you have known him your entire life, been through some serious shit and would do anything to save him. Perhaps it doesn't matter how long you have known him and the morals you live by tell you you must help him, or maybe leave him. I want you to imagine this situation happening with your best friend.
