What ever happened to people being humble? I personally have a hard time getting along with those who aren't humble.

It baffles me that people think they are better than others because they have $300 shoes or $3000 suits or they drink $800 bottles of booze. I mean, I didn't grow up in the 3rd World or anything, but it wasn't easy and I appreciate everything that I have. Now, my family is a lot better off, thanks to god (jk, thanks to the hard work of my parents) but they always remind me to stay humble no matter what.

Something that really bothers me about rap music these days is that it's all materialistic and gives its listeners the notion that all that really matters is having 26 inch rims and huge gold chains. I wanna know what you guys think...

I'm very Humble homie, maybe one of the most humblest in here, not braggin. I really do succumb to humility and I'm quick to forgive. I know what you're talking about. That's why the quality of my friends are deterred. Their minds are focused more on social issues and their mentalities are full of the love for material objects.

I agree with you. Theres nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments and buying nice things, but throwing it in other peoples faces shows that you have no class IMO...

Come on man, Step ur game up!

just joking, I completely agree with you. One of the best things about 'hyphy' music is that compared to other sub-genres of rap its more about fun and less about what you can buy....

Did any of y'all ever listen to Shock G's solo album that came out in 2005 (I think), he had some really smart stuff to say about materialism, 'thug'ism, and fronting in rap music, and of course saying it in a way that didn't sound condescending or preachy. I thought it was one of the best albums of the year, but it pretty much sold double-cardboard. So I cant really blame rappers for following trends, because everyone needs to make a living, but it sure is refreshing when people dont...

^^ Was it Fear of a Mixed Planet?

If so, I'm pretty sure it came out in 2004. I have heard it, it's a tight CD and touches on a lot of issues.
That's the one. 2004? Mayne, time flies....

The thing about capitalism is that some people get material goods SO easy and others have to grind so hard just to keep their heads above water.... I respect grind and hustle but not necesarily material things because... you never know if they got that handed to them. Just celebrating excess is rubbing it in the faces of those that struggle just to floss a little bit....

all i got to say is: those Bape hoodies and $400 Red Monkey jeans are uncalled for. why spend money for that ugly shit? just cuz it's mentioned in a song or you see groups of other people wear it simply cuz they want people to think they're ballin and shit. go buy a car or get some insurance, fuck..

its part of the reason people respect rappers like 50 cent, because of their "hustle" and "Money. just because they have a lot of money does not mean they deserved it or are better/cooler than anyone else.

yah but that doesnt really have anything to do with being humble thats just being smart or stupid and what ur priorities are and personal taste
Yeah exactly. Too many people put themselves in debt, or spend all of their money on things that don't really matter. And a lot of that shit is just to show-off or fit in with everyone else.
