OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- A Shawnee Mission West High school teacher has been placed on administrative leave while police investigate allegations of misconduct. Students KCTV5 spoke with said the incident was a bit of a distraction at school Monday.
When reports about a school teacher's alleged misconduct hit the halls today at Shawnee Mission West High School, it pretty much took over.
“Oh everybody's talking about it," Said Junior Alex Helay, “This makes our school look bad."
Shawnee Mission School District officials released a statement confirming that Overland Park Police are investigating allegations that a current teacher had inappropriate relations with a student.
Some students said they had heard the allegations, others say they didn't believe it.
"She's a really good teacher here at Shawnee West," a student said.
School officials are not releasing the teacher's name or what she teaches at Shawnee Mission West High School. Overland Park police said no one was arrested.

I grew up in Lansing, KS and graduated from Lansing High School. I have a bachelor's degree in History and Secondary Education from Baker University. I will complete my master's degree in Education from Baker this spring. I have also added a Psychology certification through Emporia State University.
I live in Lenexa with my husband, Travis (a 2002 SMW graduate), and our pets: a greyhound named Gibson and a cat named Slugger.
I love teaching at West as well as coaching Freshman Cheer!
