I always want the cd's so abstract and different from the norm I have developed strange ways of shopping for a cd...
Artist Name - You can tell alot about a person by wut they call themselves...How they title themthelf to the world...
Covers, first thing you see...
I look for the most creative, twisted, detailed in depth cover with out any bling bling shit, prefferably with out the artist posing on like hard ass thug. I have good lucc with this guess and choose method...
Features - Most Important to me...
I hate features, there met for comps, group projects, videos ect...Not a person solo project...I like artist so confident with his music and his message he hold down SOLO on his own shit with maybe feature or 2 on a tracc or 2, but they feature some he affiliated with, a creww member or long time affiliate, Basically some one who dont charge you for a chance to be on your shit. Some one get on my solo project they have to pay me and they better show me up with his verse...Esham taught me the importance of you being the main actraction to your album not a feature paid off artist, just my view for a SOLO album...
Number of songs...and titles of them
I think 15 tracc albums are out...You know wut you kinda music get on those 15 traccs? Intro - 13 songs of verse chorus verse chorus verse chorus - then fucc the haters outro? am I right? I love an EP, that slumps the whole way through all 8 songs or wutever the whole lp that makes me bounce from song to song. But cds with like 20 or more traccs i find to have more songs that have individuality rather then a repeadative sound, you have to switch it more with that many traccs...aight now the titles of the songs, well go into any music store and picc up any two major or sumwhut well know underground artist and i bet the song titles have a match or very close veriation or meaning...I like song titles that make think and especially wonder wut songs about, makes you wanna hear before you have any idea wut it will sound like.
One my favorite cd's "MASTAMIND" likkkuidrano" a 6song ep, well actually 4 cause its has an intro and a outro. But the for songs knocc, stand out from eachother, and carry with the theme of the ep as a whole...Tech N9ne - Angellic has around 20 songs, with an intro, bout 4-5 skits...but this albums was pieced togther masterfully, feels like he tellin you a story, the story of his life in hell and how he got to where he did...
Location - I like to hear the sound of music from new locations and spots with thriving underground cd like the KCK, MO...I just found bout this guy name MAC LETHAL from Kansas state. OOWWEE is he hard, more hiphop the gangsta, but more gangsta then hip hop if that makes any sense. Diffently got a style all his own, good storyteller...Kinda goofy though...
Then my SICCNESS releases...
Well many of yall probably dont know...I buy every cd on of my artist, on the rise artist or board member ever realeases...Even if get sent a cd for free, i wil go out buy it. I make sure my local store support yall...and yall wouldnt belive me if i told How many cds i have how much $$$$ dropped on supporting the cats that support me! Oh, and if i aint got your shit, let me know, it will be added to my list of released cd waiting to be purchased in the order it was placed on the list...

So yes, I will buy a cd i have never heard. THIS DOESNT WORK EVERY TIME. I have about a 50/50 success rate...But i got some shit very few people ever even have the chance to hear much less buy. I will give any cd a try as long as it can be considered a learning experience, because i never trade or sell a cd out my own personal collection, I study every cd inside and out to find wut like and dislike of the album. I learn from it and absorb everything bout it. Peeps laugh at me all the time cause we can go to any cd store, they picc out cd to test quiz me on, and odd are pretty good I can tell when the the cd was released, who it was produced and distrabuted by, previous and future projects, wut label they signed, who the executive producer was all that. I guess im a fountain of rap knowledge, i know my history, but always wanna learn more. Im influenced by everything whether it be good or bad, yall feel...
If any one try one of my methods let me know how it works out, but hold me liable if doesnt...
Plus anyone know of any artist I may not that comin with some new to the table? put me up on game bout them and where to get the cd...

As far as the artists that I've been liking since a kid, I usually just swoop it up as soon as it drops. But for artists that I'm unsure of , if I hear them on someone elses album and so forth and so forth and I'm really digging em then I take a chance. That's how I became a fan of CELLSKI, KILLA TAY, LUNASICC, and about 50 other rappers.

I used to do this, but I got burned too many times with some garbage ass shit. I would say my good finding rate was like 60/40.....60 being wack shit. Spending 17 bucks on some wack shit is not very pleasing. I might as well have wiped my ass with the 20 spot.
But I've definately found a few Gems along the way as well.

im with lunitunez. i used to go the same route as curbie, but bornsin's 60/40 ratio turned into 90/10 for me. im finding more solid releases from the majors anymore. the underground is disappointing nowadays whereas just 3 or 4 years ago it was the other way around. maybe ive just outgrown it all. that cat curbie was talkin about from kc sounds like he's got something i might wanna hear. where might i find that curb???

I rarely ever pick up an album I have never heard the at least some of the music before, and I can honestly say I've never just strolled into a store a picked up an album where I never the music or of the artist before unless it was a local artist from my state (I Like To Know Who My Competition Is! :classic: )

i buy on impulse and gut feeling especially when I don;t know what I'm in for. But i take the risks on occasion.

when I'm really unsure I pull out the magic 8-Ball and shake it on up!

signs point to yes!

The first thing I look at is the Record Label. Then id I have heard of the artist or like the artist. I usually like to support the underground. Thats where the best music is.

i listen to it if i can
if a lot of others rave about it i'll usually buy it
there are certain artists i'll buy whether i've heard it or not (e.g. e-40, san quinn, messy)
it is rare that i buy something that ive never heard of, but it has happened and liked some of them
