I know with Verizon you can log into your own voicemail and then you can select the option to send a voicemail to another number. I do it often so I don't disrupt clients when I have to update them on a particular situation.

I always just called from a private number and then quickly called on another phone and left a message when it went straight to voicemail. No missed call from the number though but shit still worked...

call your number, wait for you voicemail message to come up, hit * or #, and put in your password...
