like rap, electronica or rock and you know these mufuckers will never get anywhere cause the talent isn't there, they're not grinding hard to get where they want to [like cheaping out on whatever expenses] or whatever else reason. i am talking bout folks you know who actually wanna make money off music and not just doing it for the love.

not just doing it for the love.
No one is just doing it for the love, dummy. That's why music is so fucked up right not. Because people are doing it to make that quick buck.

I have quite a few friends that play for live bands. And although they make decent money, as well as tour with professional and semi-professionals, they'll ALL tell you that they wouldn't be doing what they're doing if it wasn't for the love of music.

when i meant for the love, it usually is just a hobby and no one outside their own garage or bedroom hears shit, since i have friends who do that, no intention of selling their music at all, just like to play instruments on their off days.

Every rapper I know has a day job.... either working for another company and running their own label on the side or producing... but I don't know any that just get paid for rapping.

even some of the 'biggest' names in bay area rap have day jobs.

I'll let them stay nameless, some even work in food service but it's all good & entertaining for them to make you think they are hustlin on the block grindin music, dope, & hoes.
I got alot of music homies workin day jobs. Gotta do muzik for the love of it until the game changes up and they start puttin real artists on again.

i dont know anyone who realistically thinks theyre going to become rich off music because were all adults and smart enough to know that. i know people who do music because they enjoy doing it, or theyd be doing something else.

who said you have to be focused? why is there always someone from the outside expecting a artist of musician to live up to a certain level or potential? do they have to? can they just be lazy and not focused and make shit when they have time?

most rappers i know are talking about shit they do, and its not like theyre talking about anything thats socially acceptable by mainstream radio to-fucking-begin with

I know lot's of people in different genres of music, but rap is the one who get's the finger pointed at when it comes to the music business going bad.

The thing is, most rappers toot their own horn and are quick to call a freshly recorded song by them, a "HIT" / "CLASSIC" / "FIRE". They have forgotten that it's not your job as a rapper to run your mouth about your own shit. Promotion is now overkill and reached a point where nothing really catches attention. It's all placed in the same mixing pot with the rest.....never to be listened to.

Most are satisfied with placing their cd's in the mom & pop's stores etc etc and focus on how tight the cover is gonna look before they even put the pen to a pad. They already have the cover done and not one beat to write to. That's another thing that's killing the game. Some refuse to catch up to the new methods in selling music and stepping outside the box and really pushing your product from the comfort of your own home to the neutral people outside your area.

Most have forgotten to let the crowd decide if it's a Hit, Classic or Fire. And take the time to search for the crowd that listens to your genre of music. Don't run and tell all you rapper friends you dropped an album. It's pretty much dead in the water after that, as it plays though the ears of the next man who's doing the same thing you are. Independent rappers believe in showing love and support, but in reality, there is no support. Support should be from the neutral crowd who's not doing the same thing you are. And somebody who is gonna play your music because they truly like it, not because they're trying to keep it cool with you as a friend. I don't believe in supporting my area to the fullest because the reality is, they're are a lot of artist that straight suck. And they may feel that way towards me, but difference is, I don't take it personal, nor dislike them as a person for it.

It's a discourage & a harsh reality check to many in this game, but that is what separates the ones who continue the journey non-stop.

Do your best and if your truly that good, the real people outside your circle of Homies will speak and let you know.

Be humble and expect nothing in return. Life is too short to not have fun in what you are doing.

i also don't mean you're trying to make money off music PERIOD but you still wanna get on regardless. shea is right though, some mufuckers wanna give the illusion that they're making the trap say AYE and whatever else but secretly they're going to school and doing a part-time or 9-5 like everyone else.

accessibilty to technology allows ANYONE to be in the music business. i'd be willing to bet EVERYBODY on these boards know someone who is in the business, if they dont consider themselves in the business. 99% cant consider it business but do anyway. i've noticed that alot of people on here actually do rap or want to also. it may be all those lies that keeps our region down.
