Crazy, I can't believe some of the people here only recently started listening to Bay rap and they live in the Bay.

Personally I started in 1995 when I heard Dru Down's Pimp of The Year on this compilation tape someone made for me. Then I got into Too $hort etc... And at that time I was living in fucking New Zealand!!

technically since the likes of Digital Underground and MC Hammer were getting play on MTV... 17 years ago.

of course since the year was 1989, and i was only 8 years old, i didn't consider it "bay rap".... just rap

as far as independent shit goes... i'd say since Ray Luv first came out with "Get My $money On" back in 1992.... i started really venturing further past the more popular shit around 1999

my older brothers had all old school rap songs...

i still remember hearing mac dre arrest on the radio when they first announce it...

I was all over that Kriss Kross. Then my friend from the crest laced me on Mac Dre's young black brotha album in the 5th grade in 92. That's when I stopped liking mainstream and got on the bay scene. Then after 99 I went back to the mainstream.
