I was thinking about this today. Everyone I get into this discussion with a Theist about Atheism, they try to say Atheism is a faith because we believe in Science. I think that is a total misunderstanding of Atheism. To me, in Atheism there is no "faith" involved.

How do you define it?

There's a famous quote which I will cite once again "Everybody is an atheist, I just chose not to believe in one more God"....

Atheism is not a faith and science is not something you believe in, in fact faith is an obscene word in the naturalistic view of the world. Scientific knowledge comes from continuous rigorous testing of hypotheses, not from faith, and the main thing they teach you as a scientist is not to trust anything unless you're shown indisputable proof about it

Yet u believe in Evolution? LOL
I am beginning to seriously doubt your ability to comprehend what you read

I clearly stated there belief is a dirty word for a real scientist, and I do not believe in evolution, I actually avoid using the two words together as much as possible precisely because of these reasons

Evolution has been and is tested every day for the last 140 years and has stood the test of time, that's why we accept it as one of the most solid scientific theories. The same can not be said about creationism the arguments of which can be easily ripped apart by a 7-year old with some basic education...

You are technically right about the agnosticism but only as far as deism is concerned. We can be sure beyond reasonable doubt that there is no religion that tells the truth

And deism and Christianity are very different things

what is deism?

and christians often say it takes faith because they often will think since you are atheist, you believe that water hit mud and made people, lol. they think this is evolution, lol. there is evolution, things evolve, but it takes a great deal of faith to believe that mud was struck by lightning and made people, and if you do believe that, im afraid you have more faith than i do

well, hm this gets me thinkin.
i've always considered myself an athiest, because frankly i couldn't find any other way to describe my hatred for religions in any other way.
but now, i guess i've dropped that, but i still would in some way, consider myself an athiest, but then....
what if i believe that things are meant to be...like the whole karma theory, like i wouldn't have been going through this, thinking this, sayin this, if i haven't been put through somethingin the past with the same type/amount of energy.

is that god?
or just a personal theory on the rules of humanity?

i guess i've been wishy washy as to explain anything using the word god, especially since everyone who said god were jesus freaks and said that i was going to hell.
lol, it just deterred me from the word itself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deism

Deists typically reject supernatural events (prophecy, miracles) and tend to assert that God does not interfere with human life and the laws of the universe.

nobody says that lightning struck mud and made people, this is what you would hear from creationists trying to discredit abiogenesis.... and BTW abiogenesis and evolution are two different things, we are sure beyond reasonable doubt that the latter happened, and we know a great deal about the mechanisms, the former is more problematic because of timing

I have to admit that if you look at how complex even the most primitive cells are, it is hard not to say "Damn, this thing can not have just evolved", however, you will forget the time frame in which this happened. We can see how evolution went for the last less than 600 million years and for that time a lot of change happened... there were 4 billion years before that during which the complexity had plenty of time to evolve, moreover, it is almost certain that organisms were much more plastic genetically back then because the mechanisms for genome maintenance also had to evolve...

science has not proven that god doesnt exist, yet atheists believe that god doesnt exist. while the burden of proof should be on the one making the claim (theists), atheism, rejects absolutely the possibility of a god, instead of taking the more scientific approach and conceding that we simply dont know.
You're the second person, next to 2-0-sixx that has said this, well during my tenure here. Makes Sense

That is an extreme generalization of Evolution.

that mud was struck by lightning and made people

How do I have more faith believing we evolved from another animal, than you believing God made you out of dirt and because he was alone?

There is no evidence or even research on your system of belief, so your system is totally based on faith, which we all know. Atheist have no system of belief. The truth is there could be Atheist who do not believe or even care where we came from, just that we are here. But if you are a believer of any sort, then you automatically believe someone/something put us here.

has anyone ever asked themselves wheater or not god created science? that one has ran through my head a couple of times...if god were to exist, did he create science, evolution, and other things jusus freaks dont believe in but have very much been proven to be true?
