Dear Lisa,

Try squatting down and inserting your thumb and forefinger into your vagina. Sweep the fingers back and forth searching for the string or the tampon. If you feel it, grasp it and pull it out. If you can't feel it, but you cannot remember removing it, I suggest you see your doctor as soon as possible to make sure it has not been pushed up into the highest part of the vagina. It needs to be removed asap, (within 8 hours if possible).
