JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville mother was arrested after being accused of beating up a 12-year-old boy she suspected of starting a fight with her son.
According to a police report, Kengnion Grant, 27, slapped and shoved the boy as he was walking home from school on the Westside, WJXT reported.
A witness told police she saw Grant in the middle of road yelling at the child and that the woman slapped the boy and pushed him to the asphalt, the police report states.
The witness told investigators Grant was mad at the boy because she thought he was beating on her son.
When police arrived, they said they found the boy crying. The victim told officers the same story about Grant believing he was beating up her son.
The boy told police he tried to tell the woman that he did not hit her son and that it was her son who hit him, according to the police report. He said when he told the woman that, she slapped him, knocked him to the ground and stood over him yelling and screaming, the police report states.
When confronted by police, Grant admitted to confronting the victim but said the boy was ignoring her and so she grabbed the back of his shirt. She said when the boy starting swinging his arms to get away, she let go and he fell to the ground.
Police arrested Grant and charged her with child abuse. She has since been released on bond.
Grant told WJXT she never slapped the boy and said that she was trying to hold the child in place so that she could talk to his mother.
She also said her son is only 9-years-old and the minor injuries the 12-year-old boy received were from the fight he had with her son.
