dope vid. I understand what they doin and there's something about hand to hand /face to face promotion. But you gotta reach out to people that are either stuck at work all day or night and dont come out often. But he got a point, kant make the internet your #1, but at the same time, a Scanned flyer on myspace/twitter is free and limitless.

No wonder it's called "How To Promote For Dummies". I thought it was pretty much common sense to go and pass out fliers and sampler CDs outside of the clubs when they are closing. There was always someone passing fliers and sampler CDs out when I'd get out of seeing a show in Hollywood. If you need these guys to tell you that, you're probably in the wrong business. And I would usually read the fliers and listen to the sampler CDs before I would throw them away because I never what was on them. The flier might be an advertisement for another show I'd want to see where the tickets are not being sold through Ticketmaster.

The truth is, u have a better chance of blowing up by internet promotions then hand 2 hand if your plan is correct. The reason why is, which tool allows u to touch all markets and regions in one day. The net is vital, in a digital era. True, hand 2 hand is cool for local exposure, but I know dudes who get paid, by making good music and sell like a mu fukka overseas. Take auditory for example, homie gotta platinum plaque, off a project he was on overseas, from using the net. Now, he is a platinum producer. You have online distribution outlets, radio outlets, where u could be in full rotation on satellite, and getting paid for it, and people who aren't up on game would think you aint doing shit...Prince aint even go out and market his last album, homie just released it on the net and not even in stores. I know or met most of the posters on the site in person, but the truth is I was introduced 2 mosts music thru the net promotion. Good product, dope web promo, and u don't have 2 do shit, 2 be real.

I agree that the net is a great way for greater exposure through promotion, but come on now you cant mention prince not marketing his albums today because he is a huge star. It is my opinion that if you tryin to get paid off album sales as an independent...hit the streets..if people are somewhere shopping they have money in their pocket....if they on the internet why spend the money at that moment when you can hit up a site and get it for free which is quicker then bringing out your credit card and entering all information.

When I saw this video, it really applied to some local promotion, as in their bar, so that local interaction will help them achieve that.

As far as muzik goes... its really a revolution. Shit was never like this back in they days. Real time interaction.. People can put up muzik and get feedback.. but beyond that, and I know in the NW section, some kat was blasting Dubb G, Madison Kane and poeticcc for tryna jumpin on a track together. http://siccness.net/vb/showthread.php?t=317988

anyways, people are able to branch out of their areas, build a new fan base, network better, and even find talent/beats/grafix all bekuz of the internet.

There was another thread about "myspace rappers"... people blastin them.. when infact alot of people dont have an outlet... but I've seen people from California connect with people in Europe, Russia, Australia and other places for beats and verses.

But people make it work.

Plus you have people willing to do stuff for your just for exposure.

Grinding is different nowaday compared to back in the 90's. I feel you on that there is no right or wrong way.. but alot of trial and error. Some shit might work in some places, and some might not work in others.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Going to SD, I've seen how the street grind has paid off and that's a good thing. Artists are out there showing people and communication skills.. and possibly getting feedback on their product.

Anything online is good, majority of the time.

myspace - best free webpage for promotion. before kats had to buy their own domain page.. now its pretty much myspace is better and gets more views.. and if you really up on myspace, you kan make HELLA connections to alot of people.

forums - such as the siccness and others. Really, I wouldnt be up on alot of artists if it wasnt for siccness.net Plus many of those artists come on here to interact with their fans and that gives them more respect and makes a solid fan as well as the communication between artist and fan.

media sites(youtube/imeem) also can expose your music and underground video that probably wont make it to MTV. But can spread to various sites by your fans and if people feeling your style/music/message, then you made another fan.

Flyer/release date album... on the streets you'd have to pay for the materials and how many printed up as well as if you want it glossy or what not. On the internet, that 1 flyer scanned, can be spread thru out the net like nothing.. and free.

I was able to connect alot of people for various projects.. and on top of that, I was able to make some strong connections.

As for artists,
But puttin out a free mixtape, can show how good you are on the mic as well as on beats (particular producer/or style) and that can go along way. Before Jay Rock or 211 have dropped albums, how many mixtapes they put out??

Mixtapes seem to be the new grind/part of the new way to promote your self.

If you a DIY type person, you kan learn alot off the net.. make your own page, make your own beats, learn to read music notes, learn to write poetry.... learn how to do graphics... its all up.

Downside - not everyone gets on the net, not everyone is computer illerate, not everyone buys music (download) and if you put a bunch of bullshit videos up, you get laughed at (40 glocc).
