Didn't see this one coming...

According to a report by John C. Cotey of the St. Petersburg Times, Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright have agreed to fight at a catch-weight of 170 pounds on July 21, on HBO pay-per-view.

"It's going to be interesting," said Jim Wilkes, Wright's adviser and attorney. "When Winky wins, he will have beaten all the guys that beat Oscar (De La Hoya). Maybe that will convince Oscar he should fight Winky later this year."

Wilkes said the contracts have not been signed, but the deal was completed, for the most part, on Thursday. The site has not been set, but Madison Square Garden and Las Vegas are the top choices to host the event.

"This isn't an agreed in principle thing. It's agreed in details," Wilkes said.

Originally, Hopkins was going to face Roy Jones Jr., in a rematch on the July date, but the two fighters could not agree on the financial terms, which has been the deal-breaker every single time they try to come together for their long-awaited rematch.

Not 100% official. But it looks as if it might be...

These are two of my favorite fighters...both have unique styles...I would have to go with B-Hop, being that he'll be coming in to the fight closer to his natural weight...while Winky will have to bulk up a little...plus, Bernard owns southpaws. Something like 10-0 against them...

Winky's peekaboo style leaves his body open a lot...I think B-Hop is going to attack the body. Should be a good fight...looks like a great summer in boxing is coming...hopefully I can go to this if its in Vegas...missed out on the De La Hoya - Pretty Boy Floyd tix...

I guess that Hopkins/Jones Jr. fight didn't work out, huh? 170 seems too high for Winky so I'm not sure how he'll fill in and B-Hop looked like a beast at 175 for Tarver. I'll have to go with Hopkins on this one in a SD.
