Hooking external hard drive to PS3?

How do you do it?

I have a 620GB HDD..I tried to convert it to Fat32. "didn't work"

Swissknife keeps crashing on me. "didn't work"

Any other ideas?

OFF Topic. Do you have to convert an HDD in order for an XBox360 to read it.
