BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) -- A homeless man who called 911 from the hot tub of a suburban Portland home and asked for towels, hot chocolate and a hug got arrested for trespassing instead.

Beaverton police say Mark Eskelsen called 911 from his cell phone, identified himself as "the sheriff of Washington County," and asked for medical help. He later admitted he wasn't the sheriff but informed the dispatcher he'd been "yelling for about an hour and a half."

The man said in his Sunday morning call that he'd been in the water about 10 hours and his towels had gotten wet. As he put it, "I just need a hug and a warm cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows in it."

The Oregonian newspaper says arriving officers arrested Eskelsen for investigation of second-degree criminal trespass and improper use of 911

how does a homeless dude have a working cell phone?
Haha good question. In my city there's a lot of people who are homeless by choice. It's a big controversy because we have a poverello center that feeds the homeless, regardless of their situation. Some people really need it, and others don't. Homeless people flock to Missoula because of the way the city "looks out" for them.

There was this article in the paper a couple years ago where the reporter sat with homeless people for a couple hours while the panhandled on the street or whatever you call that shit. In one hour this dude came up on $25. I'm sure there's times they make more than that too. If you think about it, you could actually just pretend to be homeless and make more than a lot of people who work 40 hour weeks with low paying jobs.

Back on topic though, I wouldnt be surprised if homeless people have prepaid cell phones. I have even heard of people donating phone cards to the homeless back in the day, so I'm sure it's evolved into donating prepaid cellphones.
