I personally think ANY instrument can be suitable for hip-hop. It's just a matter of how you use it. I've used some random shit before whether it be a VST or samples that wouldn't be considered "the norm" and it worked out

^^ agreed...

i dont like iblit or polyiblit at all... i have yet to use a sound in a beat from them...

V-station is coo... you gotta fuck wit the sounds like a son of a bitch tho... they sound pretty old school

i also got the pro 52... never used the 53... the 52 is coo... again.. a bit old school...

Bass station (good ass bass sounds)
albino1 and 2 are filthy

mini moog is coo too... id rather have the hardware version tho

ms-20 is good.. pretty old school but a tweak here and there and you can get a clean ass synth...

polysix is my baby... ive completely raped the shit outta that thing...lol

whats a good website for free VST's?
Well you can search kvraudio.com, then from there you'll get the links to the websites. Anyways, google is your friend.

About PolyIblit/Iblit, I personally like them for Basses and Leads. You can get some nasty buzzing basses or deep basses good for Mobb/G-Funk style shit, the same with whiney funky worm leads. It's all about how you tweak it though, some of the presets are aight because their very generic, but some shit sounds better at higher octaves or lower. For example, some of the sawtooth basses make for perfect whiney leads at higher octaves. Again it's how you tweak with it, fuck with the filter, Env., LFOs,etc... ASynth is another one that seems very generic str8 off that bat, but the waveforms sound really good and pure. Trust me, some of these freeware synths mentioned get a lot of praise in the VST community.

True, but I'm talking mainly about VA's that give you that raw sound (minimal FX and shit like that), whether your looking for basses, leads, pads, sweepy FX sounds,etc... Obviously many synths out there work of course (even the ones geared more of Trance music), but the ones I mentioned are just simple and work good if you know how to tweak with them a bit. I dunno, maybe I should have said "WestCoast" Rap instead of Hiphop because the synths I'm talking about are nicely suited for that big buzzy/deep bass and funky worm synths. Your more typical jazzy/Funk shit.

albino is sick. I haven't used vsts in a long time...the only thing i use for bass sounds besides a couple of refills is the trilogy bass sound thing. I think you'd call it a sound module though? I'm not sure. I've been using east west vapor synth though, for pad sounds and textures. I'm going to check out v station though, thanks.

I wouldn't mind to have a Roland JP8000. Not for Hiphop use, but for thick sawtooth leads (Supersaw) and basses used for Trance music. Yes I like trance. lol

Seriously though, one of the best sounding VSTi synths ever IMO is "Sylenth1." Not Synth1, but Sylenth1. The sound is so intense.

You fools need to check out "ORCA" VSTi if you haven't already. Shit is DOPE for basses and leads. Don't be fooled by it's appearence, the synthesis behind it is hella good. Not to mention, it's freeware. VERY simple to use. I've been using it a lot latey for my synth bass needs.

Remind me to show you on young Sau Album we working on where a Jp8000 was used in a song...Ya boy LIL1/2 dead from the G Funk Era thought it was hip hop enough when he had a hook when he first heard it when I was gonna use that beat for another project.

LOL, you haven't heard the Orca yet. Seriously though, it's a badass synth for bass and leads. You can get some really nice watery sounding basses.

If you guys really want a solid soft synth with the best Leads & Pads I've ever heard personally, check out Softplug's Adventus VSTi 1.5. This thing is a fucking monster. Will rival anything you put up against it. Just, fabulous classic PHAT VA sounds. Get the Adventus DF VSTi for a more wide, fuller, stereo sound.
