in one of my college classes today the issue of hip hop came up in regards to society.. we started talkin about the roots of rap and how it was a voice for people to talk about their struggles and shit.. it got into the issue of white rappers vs black ones vs latino ones, etc, and pretty much everyone agreed that it wasn't really about the color cuz if you in the game everyones cool wit each other, although there are some people who are skeptical about white people rappin...
then we got into the issue of mainstream rap and how its made it really commercialized, wit lots of kats talkin about bling-blingin' and showin off your bitches and jewery and shit.. couple kats brought up how underground rap ain't like that and a lot of it is about struggles.. they brought up how some black rappers rapped about strugglin growin up in th ghetto, but that theres also white people who grew up poor or in the ghetto too and that not many people realize that... i mite bring in some Woodie/East Co Co CDs the next time class meets and let them see wats up fo real...
all i noe is that my fave rapper is not only underground but also white and it tops 99% of the shit out there IMO... just thought that was an interesting discussion to talk about here (its been brought up before, i noe)... what does everyone else think?
