As far as the mic is concerned you are straight. I think Insanemexican has that mic, and I've used it before at prairie sun. If you cop that you'll be set. How many mics do you have now? If it were myself, and my mic count were limited, I'd take that money and purchase top of the line Nueman's, Akg's, and Blue's and I'd also snatch a ribbon.

As far as the pre amp is concerned I haven't used that one, but I've used damn near every Neve pre that prairie sun had to offer (and they offer several considering they have a neve board and floating gear.) Look into the VINTECH models, Avalon ad2022, Massenburg GML8304, Focusrite Liquid channel and the Manley Voxbox (or SLAM.)

D-Sane has that exact microphone. You guys trying to match each other up or what? J/k.

Check out these Pre's.

i gotta neumann u87ai, rode ntk, and tryin to decide between a blue bottle or korgy kat when i snatch the c800g... and honestly i dont know much about converters but was lookin into this rosetta (spelling?) box..

only thing i dont like so far is how erryone keep talking about how extra brite the c800g is.. which means it wont work for as many people as my (believe it or not) ntk does... the 800 i fucked wit sounded perfect for my voice tho, so i could almost give a fuck about anyone else.. lol...

USE THE 1073 DPD over what heresey said lol FOR REAL
don't make me argue with you heresey
NEVE make the BEST NEVE mic pre's
others are just neve-ish
No, you can argue all you want, but at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference of what a person feels is best for them. I don't ascribe to the belief or opinion that this pre amp is the best, or that pre amp is the best. Some pre amps are better than others for specific applications, and you should probably look up the reviews pertaining to the Neve emulations, and you'll see that a lot of engineers (top ones with credits) couldn't tell the difference. In addition, take a look at what I posted and you'll see that I mentioned things besides Neve, and if it were my first choice I'd go with the Massenburg GML8304. Now, if others are just "neve ish" (and the vintech would be the only model suggested that would sound "neve ish") explain these test results:

So yes, I'm now going to make you argue with me.

If it were myself, and money was an issue, I would hold out on the c800g for now, cop another mic (blue or kat), tighten up the converters and snatch a summing buss. These things are going to improve your sound more than one mic will.

http://www.frontendaudio.com/ take a look around here, and if you want I have a link to another site, but I'll shoot that oen to you via pm, ;)
