Here's a post from one of the greatest posters I've ever encountered on any message board named Noah African...He articulates so well it's ridiculous. But this is his post on the War on Iraq which I pretty much agree with...
He titled his post "Creating fear"
"Who actually believes that it is not the goal of the United States to over throw the government of Iraq and put into place a government that will work in favor of American interest…. as Saddam once did? Anyone who does not believe this needs to study geopolitical objectives, militarism, imperialism and economics over the last century. There are members of the Administration and corporate elites that are salivating over what can be gained from a puppet regime in Iraq. The reasons vary from the domino theory of placing a capitalistic secular democracy, friendly to the West, in the heart of the Arab world that would in theory create jealousy and dissent in neighboring countries for similar change. Then there are those who realize that oil is the lifeblood of the world’s economy and whomever controls the oil…controls the world. Thus, there are people who either want to profit from Iraqs oil supply and or plant the seeds of the ultimate removal of non secular-capitalistic-democracies from having the power over Western nations economic fate. Then there are those who simply want to finish off Saddam Hussein simply because they do not like him still being in charge while US leaders come and go.
People should realize the U.S. is doing everything that it believes that it can get away with, to find the convincing pretext that will give the public and world the rationalization for going to war with Iraq. Every war endeavor first starts with the ubiquitous propaganda of demonizing the enemy, for the purpose of creating fear in the hearts of citizens. The goal is to convince the people that a demon leader, nation or people will ultimately get us…. if we do not get them first. The administration has successfully done this, but it still has yet to provide evidence of how this demon is a direct threat to the U.S. and believe me…they are trying as hard as possible to come up with something. The fact that the administration is trying so hard, with all our advance technology, satellites, spies, spy plains and so forth, but yet still have not produces enough evidence tells me that either Iraq is more advanced than we are and circumvent our detection efforts, or the more plausible fact that they just are not a big threat to anyone, even though they may have some capabilities to produce mass destruction, which many nations have.
Just who amongst us would believe that our government could not or would not create or plant evidence against Iraq to serve as the pretext? How would we ever know that they did or did not? After we go to War and the U.S. forces secure the nation…who actually believes that the U.S will not produce a smoking gun? “Here it is everyone…. we told you they had it. Here is our justification”. To think that the U.S could go to War with Iraq, then never produce any evidence of weapons of mass destruction would be political suicide not just for the president, but for the legitimacy and image of the nation, which is already tarnished in the world opinion court. Hey, law enforcement does it often; they may raid a drug house and plant evidence of drugs when they cannot find any. The stakes are much higher in finding and presenting the smoking gun after this war. This begs the question, though, if they know were the stuff is, why do they not just launch a satellite guided missile and blow up the weapons and facilities that create it? Israel does this all the time and did it against Iraq in the past. Why do we need to risk world instability by taking over a nation, when we can just blow up the stuff that’s causing fear and danger? The answer is the fact that regime change is the motive much more so than are weapons of mass destruction. WMD is simply a pretext, but not the majority motive. It is simply used because it plays on the number one motivator of humanity…fear. Create fear and one thus creates rational for destruction of what is feared. Terrorist can get destructive capabilities from and increasing number of sources, including the former Soviet Union.
What Americans do not realize is that trust and patriotism in a democracy can often create the irony of a de facto dictatorship for its leaders."
