Whattup yall, I am potentially getting my first "real" graphic design JOB. I have been doing this shit freelance for the last 4-5 years or so, but I have no official "work experience" so I am having trouble writing my resume...

all my work experience is in sales, retail, customer service etc.

any suggestions??

how many samples should i provide? what types?

But what does the job entail? Graphic Design can be broad at times. Are you going to be creating Logos for signage? Restaurant flyers / Posters? Menus?

Reason im asking is that you can cater your resume and samples to the specific job you will be doing. Like, for instance, the job requires you to do page layouts... well you might want to show your skill in Quark or inDesign etc etc..

I would suggest about 5-6 samples of your best work and maybe add some other work like CD covers.

That's weird for a company to not have that on their job description, but who knows, best of luck to ya.
i should specify, this is a unique situation. i know the ceo of the company, and he offered me the job. he's basically going to make a position for me, and said "gimme your resume" lol. its almost like i have the job, and the resume is a formality.

Sounds like it... You should be "artistic" and try to give it to him in crayon! LOL

I'd say list your professional skills and the tools you are good with. Also present a printed portfolio. Emma would probably have some knowledge on this topic since she got a job at a graphics firm.

just remember workin as a graphic designer for a company can take away a lot from the artistic and creative aspect that you enjoy when doing your own work.....it all depends on what youll be designing and how much creative control youll have but i have to admit i did not enjoy working for a company as much as i do working freelance....youll have strict time restrictions for one and work can get piled up quiccly.....but i mean its still graphics and better than working a labor job.....just dont expect it to be the same as acquiring your own clients and designing album covers.....
