aight im using a triton extreme running acid 5.0. i run 1/4 inch cables from my triton into a presonus firepod and record each track (8 bars) into acid then copy+paste etc. to lay out the intro/verse/chorus. there has got to be a better higer quality way of doing this. any help? i know there's the whole world of midi wich i have no clue where to start. perhaps an mpc? any info is appreciated. thanks.

The triton has a sequencer as you know and Im sure it has a song mode that you can copy bars insert bars etc.I would do all that inside the triton, unless you had an mpc. From there i would record your tracks in your computer, as far as quality Investing in better front end like even a mini apogee with better converters or a neve channel strip, or ssl,Its gonna cost but you will hear the difference

If you can get your hands on reason, it might work out better for you than Acid, but I've never used anything but a midi board with reason, so I'm not exactly sure what you can and can't do

you mind explaining? i record at 24 bit 96 hz but i would think that running through 1/4 inch lowers the quality.
O.k let me state Im an expert at nothin but know a bit about alot of things.
I guess Im not understanding your question completely. As bumpus said running the digital outs on your triton will give you the highest quality. The answer I gave was.... lets just just say when you record the beats from your triton the sound quality is near spot on as far as..soundin the same as when it was in the triton. You maybe record some vocals etc,and your finished quality is clean no clipping but its maybe too clean.Without more info its hard to see what you really tryin to do.Are you talkin about the finished product that dont sound great or what.Workin in computers is a big advantage, but it sometimes lacks the warmth of analog, and I know there are software programs to emulate this, but It aint like the real thing.I dont know what your budget, goals are.First if you just bought a computer at circuit city or somethin, your first upgrade would be a soundcard right? or break out box.Just that alone makes a big difference, but as you get more serious and its more then a hobby, the thought of better ad/da converters should be a priority, that will make a big difference,a channel strip (or rack type unit) such as neve, ssl, universal audio would be a necessity for me.I mean if your goal is to get that big studio sound without spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for an ssl console is to buy a channel strip wich they now offer, with pre-amp,eq and you can run your stuff through that and get the same sound,of course it is still costly,Ive seen some good deals on used ones,If your budget aint that big, there are other channel strips that are cheaper like trident they are pretty good so more info is needed or i will be ramblin for nothin.

Damn thats alot of work In my mpc3000 I could just do the 8 bars copy that to another sequence, and on that mute whateevr, add that another time to make it 16 ,go to song mode and put in I want sequence 2 to play once then sequence1 once then do that twicw more and thats a song....quick and easy....(I can also insert an intrio once)

In regards to the channel strip....is this something I would run each intrument of my beat through when tracking it out and recording it into my recorder.....or would it sound better to run the whole finished mix through the channel strip when your mixing down to two tracks? what are some of the less expensive(under a G brands) floaten around out there?

Tight? Now how would you connect that? It don't have any quarter inch hook ups or xlr.....Sorry if it's a dumb question...I've only heard about these channel strips, never used them...
On these you need to have a power supply wired in as well as your inputs. Some are made from manufacture with that but this is coming from a console
