I assume by 'close to studio quality' you mean a professional sound. That being said, you can't buy a Benz for the price of a Hyundai. If you need to buy a mic and a mixer, and only have $250 to do it then I recommend saving your money until you can buy something atleast decent.

Also, understand that the quality of your mic doesn't directly translate into the quality of your recording. You need to consider the quality of other equipment the audio signal might pass thru such as pre-amp's, compressors, audio interfaces connected to your computer, etc.

There's plenty of useful information already posted on this subject so searching the forum & reading should be beneficial for you.

nvm then. i forgot about asking anything with a straight answer here. i just want a good sound, i DONT NEED A STUDIO. im just asking are these products good, yes or no?
I told you everything via AIM. From what we discussed, I don't see a major/significant improvment in sound. I just listened to your music and IMHO I believe you should FIRST focus on PROPER recording techniques. After you have done this you should upgrade, but if you want to upgrade now go ahead. As I suggested over AIM I would probably change the soundcard, but you can get by with a pre amp and mic. The only mic I would use within your budget is a 58 or c1000. The only preamp I would use in that range is a presonus blue tube.

take that 250 and you can get a half decent Mic with it, nothing spectacular but something good enough to get the job done well

MXL from my knowledge is not quality product, a good mic for around 250.. wel Rode mics are a little more but are great mics. you can snag a couple sm57s or 58s for like 80 a piece and those are great mics and built like tanks. Stay away from anything that says berhenger on it they make crap, I heard one of their rack mounted compressors or EQs sound very good for the price though. forgot the model

yeah just get a sm 58 and save the rest... u most likely wont need the mixer, you can get a coo sound card like a m-audio audiophile 192, wit just as many inputs/outputs and able to run protools for the other 150 you have after the mic...

but on some realshit, you should prolly wait untill u have atleast 500-1000.. u can get a decent sound... not TOP QUALITY but decent mic, pre and sound card...

maybe they're good for something.

What are you running this into? Wondering what the whole signal chain is.

These things are all relative to what you're trying to do with it.

I'm assuming recording, but with what?

Also, what are you recording? Unless you're recording external synths, drum machines or sound modules, the Behringer is just going to be used as a mic preamp to something? No, not good.
