Obviously, one will succeed, one will not.

I for one am not going to buy either one until I know which one will actually last.

What do you guys think?

blu ray has alot more companies behind it, but i also voted for it because I have been waiting for this for many years, and the ps3 is gonna be with blu-ray, which i plan on copping when it drops.

Probably for blu ray, because I think they provide much more space and many things you can do with these kinds of discs

an employee from magnolia showed me the difference. Blu ray is like the super hd dvd. Basically if your anal about clarity and perfection and you want to see the wrinkles and blemishes on an actors face you cant go wrong with bluray. Im holding off on both until they become less pricey and more selections come out before i switch. I aint trying to pay high price for a movie like when dvds first came out....

I was in BestBuy the other day and they had a BluRay player on display...Panasonic I think..playing on a 20 something inch screen...the picture was UNBELIEVEABLE! They both will be very detailed when it comes to pictures...but the movies they have now for BluRay or Either HD DVD were not filmed with HighDefinition in mind. They are just re mastered/enhanced after the fact. The demo I seen was obviously recorded with the intention of being displayed on a HD screen being played from an HD player. So when they start filming with HD mind...we really won't see that much of a difference...because not all HD tvs are the same. You can play the same HD movie on two different players and tvs and have different results. The main difference will be the amount of disk space....and BluRay wins it. All types of interactive content and a grip of "extra" features. Not to mention...game programmers can develop games that are very huge and take a longer time to play because of the extra capacity. That, combined with PS3 compatibility and a gang of movie studios will put BluRay on top. Then again...this is my opinion..and it don't mean squat!

exuse the long post...I'm bored

Blu Ray, and heres the reason why...

Blu Ray has been working with Vivid ( Yes, the porn company ) and is slated to release porn. HD Dvd on the other hand, is taking the same route Beta did, before they were dominated and eventually driven out of the market, and deciding to not support the porn industry.

This is why Blu Ray will succeed and HD DVD will not.

Same exact thing that happened when VHS was introduced...Beta refused to press porn, and VHS did, and look what happened. Porn is actually the medium that catapulted VHS to where it went.

I don't think either will really catch on. If companies start taking away DVD the same way they took away VHS, everyone I know (and people in general) will fuckin REVOLT.

There's really no need for these new formats, unless you have a 50 inch tv, and most people don't....50" hdtv or otherwise. Not until 2009 or 2010 or whenever it is they finally decided that all TV programming will have to be in HDTV, will either of these really catch on.

Then Blu-ray, naturally, will win
