Hoffine states in his blog that "they didn't go for it"

I assume it was too dark a concept to be used for the CD inlay as that was the original idea for that particular shot

This image unfortunately was never used. The L.A. based PR Firm hired by Tech N9ne’s label considered the image to be commercial suicide. There had been a tremendous backlash from the black community over the sacrilegious imagery of his previous album ANGHELLIC. As it was explained to me by the owner of the label, my photograph was “too scary for black people.” Some neutered out-take was used as the cover instead.
Clear it up a little? BTW, this was what was written about the original cover, which was the one of The G sitting down writing with The Clown & The King one either side just behind him.

Ok so it was not necessarily EVER the original cover, if Travis said it was "too scary for black people" since he would be probably the main decision maker. It doesnt just alienate black people, alot of white people that buy cd's are freaked out by seeing that kinda stuff, and since everyone knows most buyer's are white, I am sure that people in general were the main consideration there.

But since we brought up the black thing, its not anything against Tech, but you just don't ever see black people flocking to buy shit that looks like that, why would you commit album suicide like that. It would be like selling the best food in the world but putting a picture of a charred animal carcass on the picture of the box. Yeah that is what the food is but it just don't look appealing.

Fuck that shit. Travis has given Tech good invaluable advice and I know Tech appreciates it. Just because Tech has an idea or a vision it doesnt mean it was the best thing to do.

I hear you that it doesnt make it right. I have my own opinions about Strange promotions, video timing, etc. I am sure Travis gives Tech good advice and vice versa but I think its important for me at least to realize that around 8 years ago Tech was a rapper and Travis did something to do with furniture. He had the money and Tech had the talent, but just because you are able to call yourself a CEO and VP doesnt mean they have the whole business down. Still a little on the learning curve if you ask me because in terms of Record Labels Strange is still young .. only good and better things to come.
