The rumors swirling around the sale of Pride FC have been ongoing for quite some time, but things flared up again on Monday when Sherdog.com started talking about strong rumors from some of their sources, who said that the deal has finally been struck.

MMAWeekly has confirmed with our own sources, including sources in Japan that are extremely close to the situation, that the deal has indeed been reached. From what we understand, Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta have come to an agreement that would put Pride in their hands. But remember, that is an agreement, not a finalized transaction. As with any business transaction as complex as the purchase of one company by another, things are never 100% finalized until the proverbial keys to the front door have finally changed hands.

With that said, unless something changes at the eleventh hour, it appears that Pride will soon fall under the ownership of the Fertitta brothers. According to our sources, the purchase is believed to include fighter contracts, Pride’s video library, and the Pride FC name brand. The issue of fighter contracts is one of the more touchy points, as there can be variables in each individual contract that will have to be dealt with, and no information has come forth that states which fighters would be included.

It was not immediately clear when the deal would be announced, although it is believed that Nobuyuki Sakikabara, the President & CEO Of Dream Stage Entertainment (Pride’s present owner), is traveling to the United States this week in regards to matters related to the agreement.

I hope they didn't. Whats your view on it? good for mma or bad?

I DONT AGREE, THAT WOULD BE THE GREATEST TO HAPPEN CUZ THERES SO MUCH TALENT ON BOTH, BELTS MIGHT ACTUALLY MEAN SOMETHING IF THERES A LOT MORE COMPETITION.

I also don't think that its a must to have both UFC & Pride.

This isn't WCW vs WWF.

I think its more like NFL vs XFL...

...oh that was a bad example since the XFL sucked.

But no one complains that there is only one Big Football & basketball league.

If Zuffa Buys Pride, I think its good.

That means better match-ups, better PPV/Free Cards, etc.

Plus there still will be other MMA things. IFL, CageRage, etc.

One of the best moves ive been anticipating since all the rumors began. The advantages of Zuffa taking over Pride is that we'll be able to see all the fantasy fights we've been wanting. None of the formats will change whatsoever. All rules Pride has oversees in Japan will stay the same so we'll still be able to see the kicks to the skull and knee'ing downed opponents. It just makes the superfights more marketable. We'll see ufc champions fighting against pride fighters in the octogon and we'll be able to see ufc fighters fight pride champions in the ring. Zuffa organization knows their brand very well and expanding will make for more exciting fights. Who wouldnt want to see a ufc at the saitama arena with 50k + fans goin crazy. I look at all the positives it'll bring to the table cause in reality only those pride fans will look as this thinking their favored organization will take the worst end of the stick cause their competition had the funds to buy a diminishing organization. I been saying PrideFC was gonna dive once FUJITV x'd them from showing another event on TV and sadly it was true. Me personally I just love seeing fights I could care less about pyros going off and how a fighter comes in just as long as he comes in the ring to fight.

How would it not be good for the sport to have all great matchups that would be made possible if this acquistion was real? There would be no monopoly because K-1/Bodog/EliteXC would still be around and throwing around money and the way things are looking I'm sure other organizations will rise up and toss money around at fighters.

This would make some great fights and stop a bunch of "what ifs".

Well :
1. Say goodbye to the diversity of MMA culture
2. Say goodbye to the japanese culture that PRIDE flourished on, and made it so magical
3. Ever heard of Vince McMahon? and the buyout of ECW, and WCW? ya..its pro wrestling but its business.

Once again, its business. Once you out your competition, your business drowns. Your fans dont apreaciate it anymore. How much hype was it that we thought Silva would fight a UFC fighter or vice versa? Quinton, BJ..etc..because morally it was PRIDE vs. UFC

Now all that will be gone and its all under one roof. Monopolization of any industry only hurts the business and sure there are IFL, WEC, Bodog, EliteXC, KOTC..but the 2 big guys are UFC and PRIDE and now only UFC..

Plus:
- Movie ads during Pride shows
- Dana White's face everywhere
- Low fighter pay due to lack of competition
- Fighters treated like boxers and discarded if they lose one or two fights
- No more kicks or stomps (Dana doesn't like them)
- No more Grand Prix's (Dana doesn't like them)
- Ads, more ads, and even more ads during ppv's
- Unified Rules (i.e. UFC rules)
- 4 fight card ppv's with maybe 1 legit matchup
- No more undercards shown entirely
- Welcome to the decline of MMA

I honestly don't think this is the decline of MMA at all. The only people i've seen not wanting this to happen has been people who are loyal to an organization instead of wanting to see good fighters. The low fighter pay will not happen as long as EliteXC and K-1 are around (not sure how much Bodog pays). If you notice Vera went to EliteXC for MORE money.

This is the time of GREAT matchups .. and btw the unified rules are not up to Dana but up to the atheltic comission.

I never said unified rules were up to dana and I know athletic commissions regulate rules for mma in america. But what Im saying is the rules are probably going to change and not be under full pride rules anymore. Brandon Vera never signed to EliteXC he still has one fight left on his ufc contract and was trying to see who would pay him more cuz he does not like how the UFC is treating him. Yeah dream matches are fine but low fighter pay will still happen where K-1, EliteXC or others are around or not. With zuffa owning all three organizations they don't have to work so hard to increase the quality of their product.
