Has anyone seen Restrepo? I thought War was a great read. If you ain't knowing, its written by Junger, the guy who wrote The Perfect Storm, who was embedded with the troops on the front line in afganistan. The book is not political at all, it doesn't pass judgement on the war as policy, it just examines the life of troops growing up there. Great read. Restrepo, the name of a base base on the line, is done by Junger and a camera man. I haven't seen it yet.

Cool story, bro.

This should be in the movie forum, breh.

All that.

Yeah I saw it like 3 days ago. Really good documentary. I haven't read the book since there's a long ass waiting period at the library, but I'm sure it gives a lot more detail than the movie. I felt like you weren't able to get to know a lot of the soldiers there. The first time they talked about SPC Restrepo was when he was killed. But you get to see what it's like living at Outpost Restrepo - mortar and machine gun attacks, talking about their daily lives back home, dancing to crappy music, weekly talks with local tribal elders. There were parts that made you laugh and other parts that were pretty sad. The worst part for me was when one of their sergeants was killed during an operation and one of his friends broke down crying when he saw his body. And during the interviews, a person that caught my attention was Miguel Cortez. The first thing I noticed was that he looked really young. And it's crazy to me that a guy that young saw so much combat. Another thing I noticed about him was the he smiled almost the entire time. I think that was a way for him to make it easier on himself to talk about everything that went on. But anyway it was a great documentary overall. I dragged my girl to watch it with me and, surprisingly, she liked it too. Go watch it if you can.
