Esham is a Detroit rap legend. He has released tons of records and he has a totally original style. He was born in NY but moved to Detroit while he was a kid. There he started developing his own rap style which he called Acid Rap. It is some kind of gangsta rap with lots of violence, but with an old school NY way of rapping. I remember I thought his early records were like Beastie Boys with gangsta lyrics. Anyway, he developed the Acid Rap style during the early 90s to something you won't hear anywhere else and has released lots of records, alone and together with his group Natas. His debut album came in 1990 and was called Boomin Words From Hell. He first released in on tape only but then re-released it on CD. If you are looking for something truly original, which you may find to be either very good or terrible, you should check out his records. I would recommend: Boomin words from hell, Closed Casked, KKKill the fetus and Mail Dominance. He got top score in Murder Dog for both Mail Dominance and Natas' WWW.com a couple of years back. And by the way, Eminem has rated Esham as his main influence but they had beef some years ago resulting in someone in D12 beating him up.

This is some weird shit, I was sorting out a stack of CD's yesterday and came up on a couple of Esham joints that I picked up a while back and let them play for a bit.

I would never compare him to Lynch or anyone like that, dude got skills but he really way too experimental and does some very odd collabos. Albums are hit and miss.

And plus though his lyrics is dark, he seems to like using happy music loops and shit either sounds corny or boring or both, he really don't got too many beats.

There's one tune where he spits over the Happy Days theme tune, plain and simple. He don't adapt it, there is no beat, its just some whack melody.

I give the guy props for trying to create his own style, but he's no Lynch, his flow is more candy than killa and his spits don't sound convincing. He's a novelty really.

I would put him out in the genre with cats like Kool Keith and ting. Rappers who obviously got skills but don't give a fuck what people think and do some weird shit.

And when its weird shit, you have to sit through a lot of weakness to get to the good beats they might drop once in a while.

Just my two cents...

I think Esham is tight. I never cared about him until I heard "www.com" and "Tongues". Then I started digging back and the LP's that have stood out are" "Dead Flowers", "Mail Dominance", "Tongues", "Closed Casket", "Life After Death", and "Doubelievengod".

Esham is definatly origional, that is what attracted me to his music. His music is dark and sometimes is different and I cant even get into it. But the majority of his music is tight.

I would say that Esham and Kool Keith are the only TWO artists in the industry that are origional and keep it origional. They don't copy off of anybody and they don't give a fuck what people think. That is what keeps me listining to their music and buying CD's.
