Allow me to explain the situation.

I'd like to start recording music concerts. That would basically be the only use this HDR would get; I *would not* be using it to record albums or other similar things.

What I want to do is be able to show up with my HDR, hook it up through the sound system, and capture all of: the music, the vocals and the crowd. Seeing as though a direct mix (2 channels) wouldn't leave much room to do ANY post-production, i'd like to capture all of these things on separate channels, and be able to mix it all down myself later.

Hopefully that makes sense.

This is the main piece I am looking at, but i'd like to make sure that this is something would fit what I am describing. The main thing that caught my eye was that it is able to record 4 simultaneous tracks. I'm thinking this means I could record stereo music (2 tracks), mono vocal mix (1 track), and crowd noise (1 track).

Let me know what you think. I would rather not have to buy some expensive software and a laptop if i can avoid it.

Thanks in advance!

Although you are a faggot....

I will keep your ridicule confined to the GOM board.

1. It is possible, but I would not use the piece of gear you listed. I would use a Roland vs880 ex or a vs890, but Yamaha also makes a good hard disk recorder.

2. For now consider the hard disk recorder as a mixer. WHERE in the chain will it connect to the House Mixer? Will the recorder act as THE House Mixer?

3. What types of mics do you plan on using? This will be a crucial factor when it comes down to quality.

4. Since the music will be two tracked you should consider, panning, eqing and compressing from THE SOURCE.

1. I am checking those pieces out, and they look very cool. The VS890 is looking like the best one. I can't be mad at the prices either, they're looking lower than the FOSTEX and with 100x better reviews.

2. I don't mean to sound like an ass, but I suppose it could act as the house mixer. Really, I just want to avoid 'impeding' the show, and just run a few cables through my gadget and be ready to go. Kiind of like stealing someone's cable with a splitter, but obviously, more complicated.

3. For the time being, whatever mics are in the house will have to do. But in the future, I'd definitely like to invest in some more equipment, SM-58/SLX type wireless mics and such. Not quite where 100% of the equipment in the house is my own, but most/all of the things that count are.

4. Hopefully, I'll learn how to do all that stuff soon. This mega-rapper stuff isn't going as planned, so its time for me to put some more weight on.

^^^ You get 6 simultaneous tracks in MAS mode. The quality is BEST in MAS mode, but your recording time and simultaneous recording takes a dive.

I think you can upgrad eyour drive, but I never had a need to do so when I had my unit.

Use that link if you have any questions or need help with the unit.

Many thanks. I almost ended up with some ass-backwards Fostex, instead of this 880 which seems to be something like an MPC2K--one of those pieces that just will not go away because people love it so much.

I'm just glad nobody will be watching while I fuck with this thing. I honestly hate recording/mixing, but its something I need to get good at.
