(I wouldn't hold my breath for this, Shamrock's a notorious flake these days)

BJPENN.COM was the first to learn that James Toney and Ken Shamrock have agreed to face off in an MMA match on Sept. 23 in El Paso, Texas.

While details are still emerging about the venue and fight card, the former UFC fighters are going to face off in a heavyweight attraction in what will be James Toney’s second professional MMA bout.

BJPENN.COM confirmed this with both Toney’s manager and Mr. Toney himself this evening via telephone.

Toney was last seen in MMA action at UFC 118 when he made his first and only appearance in the UFC in what was a losing effort to Randy Couture. Toney recently fought and won a boxing match in February to retain his IBF heavyweight title.

Shamrock is an MMA legend that has seen better days. He was last seen in action at a King of the Cage event last November where he posted his tenth loss in his last fourteen fights. Still, the crafty cage veteran will be a good benchmark for the aspiring Toney and a much more realistic opponent for the newcomer than the likes of Randy Couture.

Are they really that desperate for money?
Well Shamrock kind of got the shaft on fight money. I know everyone thinks MMA fighters get paid pennies, (which compared to boxing they do) well back in the day when Shamrock was fighting it was more like 1/4 pennies most the time and no big sponsor money, no other television revenue, no book deals, nothing. A lot of the older MMA fighters never got a chance to make what the fighters are making today.

Someone that knows about Toney would have to give some info on his paydays.

Yeah I could see Shamrock needing the money more but I doubt Toney needs it unless he's that bad with money management. Anything for a buck tho. If I was in their shoes I would do it too.

well how much did Toney make in his 1 minute UFC fight? $500,000 I think.

The last time he had a decent payday in boxing was against Rahman, back in 2008 and I believe he got somewhere between $500,000-$700,000. He made $1.1 million against Sam Peter in 2007.

He is a nobody in boxing right now and there are no good fights for him, although I suspect he could probably get a good payday against Chris Arreola. That's probably it. You know he's desperate when he's challenging Bernard Hopkins to fight him at Cruiswerweight, and we all know his fatass can't make 200 pounds.

And just a correction on the original article, James Toney does not own the IBF Heavyweight Title, Wlad Klitschko does.

James Toney owns something called the IBA belt, which apparently he won against Fres Oquendo in 2008. Some fake ass belt created by god knows who.

The battle of the old and washed up fighters. Just like it was stated earlier they both need to retire. I still want to see this fight for some strange reason. LOL.. I love fighting..

Oquendo beat him clean. That decision was a disgrace. I don't even care about this dumb ass fight .. but of course I'll watch it if it happens. Could be funny..

that was when Ken had MSRA, it's like medicine resistant staph. He still looks to be in decent shape, probably roiding enough to kill an elephant though. Here's his last fight in november.

He had to have made some pretty decent money for his WWE stint though..
