Shot Man Takes Bus From Calif.

PORTLAND - A 29-year-old man who suffered a gunshot would to the chest did quite a bit of traveling before going to the hospital.

Officer Chris Mead says the victim told police he got shot in Southern California and then took a bus to Portland, where a friend picked him up Saturday and drove him to Canby.

Mead says the friend didn't notice the wound until Monday, when he saw the victim trying to remove the bullet from his chest. The friend called for help and the victim was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.

The victim's name has not been released.

Mead says the investigation is still in its early stages.

reminds me of this dude......

Charles Patterson, 61, a black man, was found dead of a stab wound to the calf at 2232 S. Sycamore Avenue in mid-Los Angeles just north of the 10 Freeway by La Brea Ave. His time of death was listed as 10:10 a.m. Sept. 14.

LAPD Wilshire Det. Mark Holguin gave this account: Patterson lived with his common-law wife Zelda Green, 54. That night, a conflict between them led to violence, and at some point, she got a knife and wounded Patterson in the lower leg.

Afterward, she urged him to go to the doctor and get the wound checked. He refused. He went into the living room to watch T.V. instead. She went to bed. During the night, he apparently bled out from a wound that might, in other circumstances, have been easily treatable. It's possible an underlying medical issue may have contributed to his death. In any case, she found him dead in front of the television the next morning. She called her son, who called police.

Patterson was much bigger than his common-law wife, and she had bruises from their conflict, Holguin said. She told police she had been beaten by him before. Initially, the D.A. sought a murder charge and she spent three days in jail before being released. The homicide is now being called as a possible self-defense killing with additional investigation pending.

Wounded Traveler Stabbed Self With Pen

PORTLAND - The man who originally claimed that he took a bullet in Southern California, then traveled by bus to Oregon now tells a different story.

A new version of events that came out Tuesday night was even more strange.

Jeremy Terwilleger now tells police he stabbed himself with a ball point pen before hopping a bus to Portland.

On Monday, worried that he'd left part of the pen inside his shoulder, the 29-year-old began digging around with a knife.

He struck an artery and started to bleed heavily. His friend called for help, and Terwilleger was flown to Legacy Emanuel Hospital.

Police officers doubted the gunshot tale because there was no bullet in the shoulder and no exit wound.

Terwilleger told police pain makes him feel alive and that is why he stabbed himself with the pen.

Man Shoots At Car During Road Rage Incident

VANCOUVER, Wash. - Vancouver police say a 25-year-old man is in jail Wednesday after firing at another vehicle.

It happened at about 8 p.m. Tuesday on Washington's SR-500.

Christopher Partridge admitted to firing a handgun at another vehicle after it cut him off at the Thurston Way exit. He allegedly told police that he didn't care what happened to the other people in the car.

The woman driving with a passenger says she realized at the last second that she needed to exit. When changing lanes, she apparently cut off Partridge. He then changed lanes to get next to her vehicle and fired on e shot into the driver's door.

Luckily, no one was hurt. Partridge is expected in court Thursday.

and for my personal favorite portland news story for the day...so far

Man Bitten After Putting Snake In Mouth

PORTLAND - Snake collector Matt Wilkinson of Portland grabbed a 20-inch rattle snake from a highway and took it home.

The 23-year-old had downed a six-pack when he told his former girlfriend it was a nice snake and told her to watch as he stuck the snake in his mouth.

Wilkenson was soon near death with a swollen tongue that blocked his throat. He was having breathing problems when his ex-girlfriend drove him to the hospital. Physicians started giving antivenin and kept him sedated until the swelling went down.

Trauma doctors at Oregon Health and Science University are credited with saving the young man's life.

Wilkinson says alcohol was involved along with "a mixture of stupid stuff.
