Your dad wants to see you succeed in the craft you went to school for, i would go wouldn't think twice. Hes gotta be doing alright working 70 hours a week in the oil fields, don't those guys make decent money? If the house is paid off, he should be alright. You just have to think that this is a golden opportunity that may not happen again.

I'm the type that would move in a heartbeat though, when i finish my degree i'm thinking about going back into the service as a Naval Officer. If I had that opportunity i would jump on it and never turn back. Thats just me though.

Is it because you are the one who needs your dad and the family unit close by, its cool if thats the case but if you have the chance to fly i would take off. A culinary career would go too far hanging out in bakersfield.

It sounds like your dad is something like your safety net, eventually everyone has to jump without the net though. The shit is scary at first and you may just fall and hit your head a few times but eventually you have to make good for yourself, eventually its all gonna be on you to control your own destiny. Now is your chance.

Leaving my folks and going to another state is the best thing ive done for myself since getting out of the service. I was in a rut the whole time i stayed with them, i'm glad i left because now i have my own life. I felt like my life was on hold the whole time i went back to live with my parents.

Having lived in Bakersfield for a few years as a kid and for 6 months as an adult, I would say get the fuck out of Bakersfield.

Even if you only stay in Vegas for a few months, at least you can get some work experience to make getting your next job a little easier.

Like GHP said, it's time to jump. Shit will be crazy and awkward and difficult for the first month or so, but it's like that for any move (try moving to a foreign country where you don't know anyone or speak the language). But after a month or so you'll get used to shit and start getting comfortable. Just expect shit to be nuts at first, that's part of the adventure. Do it, enjoy it, chances are good that it won't kill you.

Man...DO IT! If you're good, there is a LOT of money to be made in your field, fam. You might start out at a hotel, but if you do your thing you could be running shit. Remember, Executive Chefs make 6 figures in a lot of places...you just gotta start at the bottom and work your way up. If that happens, your family will never have to trip.

I thought about Culinary school for that exact reason. BUT, I love cooking...and I know if I did it for work, I'd eventually see it as just a job and it wouldn't be fun doing it at home.

Do It. And like everyone else said send him $$$. Think about this too... With you gone, his bills will decline, therefore adding money that he hasnt recently had. And depending on how much your able to help, from afar... Its just going to help the situation.

ok im going to tell you something some of these others arent saying!

If it's this hard of a decsion even before you go to an interview how hard do yo uthink it will be if you get offered the job? If you were going to another city NOT named las vegas I would be saying go for it do it try it, but if yo uare not mentally prepared for vegas you will get eaten alive!!!! you will feel guilty, depressed, like you made wrong choices, etc... and that will lead to the easy gamlbing and drinking access which will in return lead to other bad choices or just blowing money and not sending any back etc...

I personally would say make the move, but only after you are mentally ready! better oppotunities for jobs and advancement in vegas as opposed to where you are now, but please make sure you are mentally prepared first.

Yeah vegas is wild. But in the food service industry u already know there's more than just cooking so a lot of ur time will be possibly be occupied so u might not have time for the bs that goes on. Also get u a ho so she can make u some extra change while ur cooking.

vegas does a good job of making its city boring so you have to resort to gambling whores or drugs.

so id try to figure out what youre gonna do in vegas to keep yourself from complete boredom...maybe get to know people now.vegas is cool if you know people but if you dont know anyone youll have nothing to do but hit the strip

if you like chilling in the house youll prolly be cool

cuz its hot summer and cold winter
geta cool lil apt and go from there

like nonfickt says get a ho, or sell coke your money will get longer...and stay out of north las vegas

unless its to get your hair cut or cop music..

Make the move if you get offered the job. Send back money to help out. You might want to talk with your dad about what happens when he is ready to leave the house. Make an offer to him that he can always move to Vegas to live with you. You guys would have trouble getting what you put into your house if you tried to sell it now, but you can still rent it out until the market improves and you can sell (you can hire a management company to keep track of things since you'll be in another state).

Congrats on the job interview though. That's a good look for you in your profession.
