yeah good question but it seems you have a lot better chance if you know someone or know someone who knows someone....that always takes priority....theres tons of beat makers now days and a lot that are willing to charge less than you or even give away some beats so all that shit goes into play when an artist or label is choosing beats....if you know somebody that can guarentee they can get the artist or label to hear your shit and you got good shit then i dont see why some sort of good thing wouldnt come out of it....the problem is getting them to weed you out from all the rest and actually listen to your shit....and then you gotta hope they dont already get better beats from someone else for less or damn near free or in a lotta cases a RELATIVE....

it all depends i guess....50 cent claims he piccs out all his beats from random discs that are submitted but im not sure how or where they are submitted and he says that a lot of beats he chooses come from no names no ones heard about yet....

aye heresy would you reccomend hiring a manager to help in this area?
Yes, and this is considering if you don't know what to negotiate for, and don't have the time to negotiate or shop your music.

if by people you mean "manager"

i dont have one yet,

they say the best way to get a manager is for a manager to find you

so i was hoping to "get out there" first, i just didnt know how to contact them (to send them some work)

im trying to stay away from myspace messages
A lot of labels and artists won't even get down with you if it didn't go through the manager or wasn't submitted by a manager. Learn the difference between solicited material and unsolicited material as this will help you in the long run.

There are books with label contacts, manager contacts, songwriter contacts, etc. It also says if they accept unsolicited or solicited material, or both. The best way is to get at somebody's manager or label, obviously. Call 'em up and ask how you would go about doing such and such. If they only accept solicited material, make sure you call them and tell 'em who you are, what you're sending, and when you're sending it. You'll get a name of the person you're supposed to address it to.

Sometimes you'll find a "For booking call: 777-9311" message in the inside of the cd cover. Most of the time, this number is to managment or the booker. If it's an indie artist it would look more professional if you had a manager submit it, but we're talking about rap/hip hop here. Business wise, this genre is the most corrupt, easily influenced and usually lacking when it comes to business. Just find the persons myspace, or email or phone number and get at them.

Sydal gave you good advice and thats basically what you do. Have an EPK just in case they ask for one, but make sure you come across as a business person with something they need that will benefit THEM.
