nah though foreal, all community colleges are really good. In california they all work the same. Though bigger ones offer more classes, like City college of san francisco. Just look for one near you and see the programs they have.

University of Phoenix is not a scam...those who think it is are probably idiots. Not hard to believe...I go there, and half of the people in my classes are not the sharpest tools in the shed. I'm assuming because SAT scores and previous grades don't play a huge role in acceptance, which is probably why very few people actually make it all the way through. Heavy work load, short classes, expensive, but taught by PROFESSIONALS! For example, my accounting teacher is an accountant...the IT teacher I had was a tech genius that works for Intel or some shit. You CAN'T fuck off at that school.

Pops went there and ended up being a high level manager at Apple in the late 90's until 2008. One of my boys got his Bachelor's from there, makes about $80K a year at a startup company, AND they are paying for him to get his master's degree from there.

After all the shit I put up with @ CC, I'd say be careful. My counselor always told me I needed classes that I really didn't need...so I ended up paying a lot of money for NOTHING! Couldn't transfer some credits, spent 2 extra semesters there, etc. etc. UOP builds your schedule based on the program, and they only give you the classes that you NEED to graduate. OH, and it's accredited.

you in San Jose still? go to De Anza... and transfer to San Jose State, you will have more value in your degree.

University of Pheonix, Devry ect ect are over priced, and under respected.

normally the school of business (probally at SJ state) will have a information technology concentration. You will be a jack of all trades, with a few certifications and a turn of the market you will be making $$

Too bad budget cuts in California dropped the admission rate @ State colleges. Hardly anybody is being accepted right now.

Also, I know some directors and high level cats, and they take U.O.P more seriously than San Jose State. In fact, I've never met a manager that didn't "respect" a UOP degree. It takes a higher level of concentration and dedication to complete the coursework for each class in 5 weeks. Have you ever done 3 months worth of work in 5 weeks? I know quite a few UOP grads that got nice positions right out of school, and I know even more SJSU grads that are either still looking for work, or are working retail positions with Bachelor's degrees.

I'm talking $60-$100K straight out vs. $20-$60K straight out.

No.

No.. no.. No.

Sydal.... just, no. lol
Maybe not for IT positions, but everybody I know that has gone to UOP has landed a NICE job. It's not an "Online school"...they have campuses. They are accredited...you can transfer credits from UOP to state colleges and vice versa.

Places like Devry that say they will land you a job upon completion are bullshit...but again, different than UOP. Devry, Western Career, etc. are "Trade schools".

Like I said, pops went to UOP and ended up as a high level mgr. @ Apple, Inc. At the beginning of this year he landed a job as IT Director @ Benefit Cosmetics...no state college.

And my dude makes 80 racks a year with a BS from UOP!

I'm not saying that UOP sucks, its better then no degree... BUT

It should say something when you get a bachelors degree from UOP and can't get accepted to any State College / University grad school... like MBA ect...The U of P MBA is not accredited by the AACSB, which is the type of accreditation that many employers look for when hiring MBA candidates.

But right now there is a reason you can't get accepted by a state college in California. I went over there with a 3.2 and got denied because of budget cuts (you only need a 2.5 to get accepted to SJSU I believe). I went back with a 3.75 and got rejected again...due to budget cuts. UOP's design is for working adults that don't have time to go to class 3-4 days a week for 3 or 4 years.

The following programs @ UOP are accredited by the ACBSP, which is one of TWO organizations.

Associate of Arts in Business, Associate of Arts in Accounting, Bachelor of Science in Business, Master of Business Administration, Executive Master of Business Administration, Master of Management, Doctor of Management and Doctor of Business Administration.

Among the colleges and universities in the United States that offer business programs, approximately one-quarter have earned programmatic accreditation from one of the two accrediting organizations....UOP being one of them.

And the AACSB and ACBSP have different alignments.

Sydal UOP is dope though, I've been taking classes since my company pays for it. Many people from my company (verizon) have taken advantage of a free education through UOP and I can say that it's better (and tougher) than most other college courses I have taken.

I wouldn't consider it a great school for IT however, or ANY university for that matter unless you were some software or hardware engineer. Schools give you just a taste of what you need to learn without actually making you an IT person. They will pretty much tell you what you should read and what certs you should go after.

Yea. I love the school 'cause it challenges me. If you're going for business, you HAVE to be business minded to some degree, right? Courses I took at other schools didn't really teach me how things WORKED! They just teach the basics. At this school, everything is approached as if you're in an actual organization with real situations.

pretty sure all the IT jobs are gettin shipped oversea's...
Yeah well just ship them our computers and networks to work on won't we?

Don't go to an online school. They are a joke, 30k for an associates degree, you gotta be fucking kidding me. University of phoenix won't get you a job, they accept anyone and will pass anyone. It's a proven fact that if teachers fail to many students no matter how bad they do then they will get fired from there. Go to a communtiy college and get an associates degree for 6-8k total.
