the lag is almost unnoticeable. MPG depends on driving style...i've had up to 32 and as low as 20
most people in volvo's arent out to race you in a caprice/impala/firebird....there are a people that will and im sure some will hurt your feelings....a v8 doesnt necessarily mean your faster...your also heavier...an LT4 is nothing more than a modified LT1 and is still just a 5.7 350 in a bigger and heavier car...your comment about a volvo not being a sleeper is what makes it a perfect sleeper...any car can be a sleeper as long as it moves....and yes the volvo interiors are plush.....
ive owned quite a few GM brands over the years....mainly bonneville ssei's, GTP's Ive had 2 GTX grand prix's, 96 impala ss ( only one to get ) buick ultra, tahoes, yukons, burbans

There are plenty of cars that are pieces of shit on the outside running 10's in my town, so yeah a Volvo or a Civic with fucked up quarter panels and tri color rusting paint can hand me my ass all day long.
At the end of the day, I don't race Volvo's or see any 12 second 90 model wagon's with tweaked turbo's handing me my ass and embarrassing my pride.
What I do see are either yuppies or first time buyers toting around in Volvo's with their chins in the air and their sandalwood air fresheners swaying in the rear view.
A 740 might not be a sleeper but my mom has always had Volvos and she has a 99 s80 t6 right now and it is quick. The twin turbos makes a big difference, my Saab 95 will snap your head back and it isn't crazy fast but it is a lot faster than most cars it's size. Even though the Saab is only around 200hp it has 230ft-lb of torque @2500rpm and that is with the low pressure turbo that only runs off of 3 cylinders. And most people wouldn't think it was fast because it is a luxury car so cars like these do make good sleepers. If I didn't own one I would have never thought they were so fast and the same goes with the Volvo.
A 0-60 time of nearly 7 seconds and a standing 1/4 mile of 15 flat isn't fast, though, twin turbo's or not. It may feel fast because of engine noise or whatever else, but the bottom line is these cars have mid-grade power and well above average styling and detail.
The new S80 V8 come with a 0-60 of 5.9 which is better, but a paltry 311 horse power 4.4 litre isn't my idea of a great time.
To each his own, I guess. I like factory cars that are actually faster than the majority of everything on the road and actually fit into a class of sports car rather than a slightly manipulated insurance bracket by adding side curtain air bags and heated seats with a weak V8 thrown in as an afterthought.
