Giants trade Russ Ortiz to the Atlanta Braves for Left handed starter Damion Moss and Minor leaguer Manuel Mateo who went 7-3 with a 1.98 era in the Gulf Coast league.

Im not really sure about this trade Damion Moss is pretty good and has alot of potential. The Giants did need another Left hander in the rotation but it hurts to lose someone as good as Ortiz just over money.

I dont think its that bad, Moss is a good pitcher with alot of potential, he could do alot at pac bell. I would rather of had them get an outfielder but i guess we just gotta wait and see.

Like drankedout said this guy has alot of potential. This cat Mateo might have even more potential, he went 7-3 with a 1.98 ERA in the minors, and seeing as how we needed to free up some money, i like this deal. We need pitching, we had to lose some to get some. We got 2 for 1, its a gamble, we'll see how it plays out.

Reguardless of weather what they got in return works out or not, there is a money issue here, thats mainly why the trade went down. Moss got paid $215,000 last year, Ortiz got paid $3.6mil.

They barely had pitchin as it is, now u trade your best pitcher!

Incase you didnt know, we got 2 pitchers in return. Both of which look to be good, we'll see how it works out. Stats mean alot in baseball, like you said one man cant carry a team.

Ortiz: 14-10 3.61era 137so 94bb
Moss: 12-6 3.42era 111so 89bb

Plus we got a minor leauge prospect with an era under 2. Sometimes you have to gamble in baseball, this is one of those times.

Good stats but i think Moss was 12-16 not 12-6 but regardless he could be a good pitcher. I kept hearing that the Giants had alot of pitching and they were gonna trade Ortiz for a bat but then they trade Ortiz for a pitcher, it makes me think that Sabean has another trade in the works using the young guys to obtain some offense.

yes because they really do need bats, they have plenty of pitching in the minors already. they got Ainsworth and Foppart that need to move up from Fresno AAA

I was kinda suprised with the trade. Moss does have an upside, but I expected it to be for some depth in the lineup. Maybe they will sign someone or make some more moves that will make all of this make sense. Losing Baker,Lofton,Ortiz,Bell, and most likely Kent is bad all the way around. I am hoping they will pull something off.
