Police have taken down members of what they say is one of the most dangerous street gangs in Milwaukee.
Milwaukee police arrested two dozen members of the Vice Lords, while U.S. authorities indicted them on federal charges of trafficking and money laundering, charges which bring tougher penalties.
U.S. Attorney Steven Biskupic says it proves they're working to take back the streets.
"I get a little frustrated when people ask what we are doing about violent gangs," says Biskupic.
"This is what we are doing."
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says what they're doing is cleaning up the streets.
"We're going after the bad guys, we've been going after the bad guys and we are going to continue to go after the bad guys," says Barrett.
The Vice Lords control a 32-block area near 1st and Keefe on Milwaukee's north side.
Police say the Vice Lords ran a dangerous crack cocaine ring and are responsible for a lot of gun violence in the area.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says that has to stop.
"As much as I like to say the city is open for business, the city is not open for this type of criminal business.
Federal authorities have arrested 100 Milwaukee gang members this year. 98 of them remain in custody.
