Good Morning Sonny And King Hiphop Advisory,
I would like to fire up the first of what we hope are many conversations and e mails regarding King Hiphop. First, do know that if and when a meeting date can be established for the first planning session Jamie and I would be very pleased to host it at the house, in West Seattle. If not, Safeco has free conference rooms available with appointment on Jackson St (Central District) and there are the coffee houses, of course.
MEETING
Would you be interested in Mid October? A Monday or Wednesday night?
SUBJECT AREAS
Would setting up a planned agenda be appropriate? Outlining meeting plan prior to meeting? My suggestion would be to count on structuring King Hiphop's day. For example, a point by point breakdown of what a typical person walking in the door of this event will experience. Here are some things to consider:
The DJs workshop : throughout the day top NW DJs show kids the basics of working turntables and the art in general. Each DJ could take 90 minutes. 7-8 DJs would be needed. Sonny thinks Technics might sponsor by setting up the four turntables and booth.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR DJ'S
Full promotion would be done for each DJ announcing schedule and their involvement. As this will be handled in 4 markets, this is invaluable marketing for them.
The B Boy Summit/Competition
Workshop, informal/freestyle, competition and some type of recognition to the art, with timed breaks in between to keep the interest level going throughout the day.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR B BOYS
An opportunity to present skills. A total B boy community experience under one roof. Recognition. Love. Promotion of the top crews.
MC's Performance/Competition
Throughout the day artists will showcase. As some events are notorious for killing people's energy level with four hour live performances, it seems important to break this out carefully with the goal of keeping everyone from being put to sleep. My suggestion is to place twenty minute sets with three groups or artists throughout the day, with an occasional headliner thrown in between. Canibus, Cool Nutz, Livio, Byrdie, Silver Shadow D, Silent Lambs Project, Unexpected Arrival, Mr. Cinatra, Todd G, Mad Ro, and of course others come to mind. For time purposes you would have to decide if live shows will work, in which case Source Of Labor, Sharpshooters, Nocturnal Rage come to mind. We can also determine which major label promotion is taking place and how to get their artists over.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR MC'S
This goes without saying..............the promotion will be simple, if they are not at this function don't complain about lack of venues. This will be the one! All MC's in this region need the promotion. For emerging talent, this is a breakthrough arena for them.
The Graff Display and Competition
Throughout the venue wall and easel displays of graff artists work, with some of it viewed for recognition and awards at end of event.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR GRAFF ARTISTS
Specific recognition, a venue for sharing talents. Again, free promotion.
SPONSORSHIPS
In each and every category of this there are sponsorship opportunities. Sonny has already agreed that for organizations directly in the culture it's going to be pretty close to free or near free. For companies we all know, there are areas of sponsorship to consider : Plaques, trophies, banner/booths, giveaways, etc.
At Crazy Pinoy, we are already setting aside the necklaces and laminates for everyone walking in the door with King Hiphop pass/momento, inorder to give kids the feel of Backstage access (even though it will be for everything anyway!). We also will contribute the cups for giveaway lemonade refreshments while supplies last (there is alot of cups though!).
We also would be happy to speak with EA Sports regarding gaming consoles for PS2 video games throughout day, if there is room at venue for it.
MISC.
Sonny needs assistance setting parameters inorder to include every aspect of what's happening in the Northwest and to make sure it is truly All Inclusive but 100% organized, open but sane.
