I believe this is what prompted Stanford to do their own experiment, where in some students were prison guards, and the others were prisoners. A very similar outcome occurred.
I'm not sure...I think there was this experiment where test subjects had to electrocute a man with different amounts of voltage until the man was screaming out in pain, but they continued at the behest of the supervising scientist -I believe that experiment -can't remember the name- predated the Stanford experiment.

Yes, that test predated both of these experiments. The class divided inspired the Stanford prisoner experiment, as it follows very similar guidelines in one poriton of the class is "superior" and the other is "inferior".
