Freewill Records is a new label outta Birmingham, Alabama founded by K. Bibbs. Looking to make a dent locally, Bibbs has released the new album "Paystyle Mixshow: Vol. 2" which showcases his artists Corey Barbar, Nino Brown, & Dirty Dolla. The album also features Superb, Lunatik, Sean Loc, Swordfish, & Doc Savage.
The album starts off with "They Don't Know" which features Corey Barbar & Nino who do a nice job rappin over the "Still Tippin" beat from the Swishahouse crew. Corey Barbar has a nice lil flow to him and stands out on the track.
"Heaven 4 A Gangsta" is the next track on the album and features Corey Barbar, Dirty Dolla, & Nino Brown. They all come with some nice verses on the cut.
Other standout tracks on the album include "Bring It Back" and "Breathe" with Corey Barbar, who displays a polished flow on the mic. The kid has got skills and it will be interesting to hear something from him with less freestyles and over his own beats. By the way, he straight kills the Crime Mob "Stilleto" beat.
Tracks like "Pac Man" which features perhaps the most overused sample outta Texas, the Pac Man beat don't really do much for me.
Meanwhile, Nino Brown brings a nice flow on the album on cuts such as "Like It Or Love It" and "One Night".
The album has something for everyone on here. Corey Barber, Nino Brown, & Dirty Dolla rap in their down south style flows over beats from the South, East, West, and Midwest.
Overall, this album is nothing more than a collection of freestyles on some of the best beats released in 2004. Freewill Records has a nice lil stable of artists judging from this album but without a doubt, the standout artist on the album is Corey Barbar. It's one thing to drop a hot 16 on a freestyle and another thing to put together several bars and make a hot song. The jury remains out on these cats, but they show that they definitely got the skills to make the album worth checkin out. Alabama has been one of the regions of the South that hasn't really made a dent nationally (with the exception of Dirty and The Last Mr. Bigg) but perhaps the next generation of rappers from Bama beginning with the crew from Freewill Records will be the ones to do it.
